When I first started getting so many maternity fashion sponsors, I was excited at the prospect of fun new outfits for my growing bump! Then I realized, how was I going to do justice to these outfits when generally I take my own photos? Or rope hubby into a late night Pregnancy Journal photo opp!? I needed help!
So I connected with Cory, a local friend (believe it or not, we went to grammar school together back in the day and now live about 10 minutes apart!) and professional photographer. I know you’ve noticed – the photos in my maternity fashion posts are infinitely upgraded!! I’ve had a lot of great comments on them, and I cannot take ANY credit! Cory’s help and generosity in taking these shots made my maternity fashion posts much more eye-catching!! (Plus she has an awesome backyard – did you see that barn and those stone steps!?).
Cory is a passionate mom of two who grew her own photography business out of her delight in visual beauty. I am always exclaiming (okay, let’s call it photo envy!) at the gorgeous photos of her daughters she shares on Facebook!
Here’s a little bit about Cory and her photography business, CS Hoover Photography:
Julie @ A Year With Mom and Dad What inspires you as a photographer?
Cory I am inspired by the uniqueness of each high school senior and I love having the ability to capture them in this transitional period of their lives. They are really starting to transform into adulthood and their hopes, dreams and aspirations inspire me to find a unique way to capture those aspects of their lives.
Julie What’s your favorite type of photography and why?
Cory I love high school seniors!! I love making that one on one connection with them. I have also photographed a local musician and had an amazing session with him. I find that focusing my attention and camera lens on just one person allows me to work on creative posing, lighting, and creating that true connection.
Julie How does your personality influence the way you take photos?
Cory I have a high energy (slightly over the top), off the wall personality. (Julie says - Cory is SUCH a fun and bubbly person to be around!) I love anything out of the ordinary! I do a lot of moving, running, crouching, laying on the ground and climbing on things to get the angle that I want for a picture. I love having subjects who are willing to think outside the box and not expect a posed portrait but are looking for something unique.
Julie What’s an exciting photog project you’ve worked on?
Cory I think my favorite project to date is a local musician I photographed. Josh Hummel is a very talented composer and musician and we worked together for a headshot for his most recent album.
Julie For the photographers out there, what kind of camera do you use and what’s your favorite accessory?
Cory I shoot with a Canon 1Ds Mark II (my backup camera is a Canon 50D) and have a full arsenal of both prime and zoom lenses. My favorite lens right now is my 135L. My favorite accessory would have to be my Black Rapid strap, it helps with the weight of my equipment. Although my Epiphanie Belle camera bag is high on my list of favorite accessories too. (Julie says – I’ll just pretend I know what she is talking about here! All I know is the photos come out great!)
Julie Is there anything else you’d like to share about yourself or your photography?
Cory I love working as a photographer but my favorite job is being mom to my two girls. Photography allows me to be creative and work while still being around for my girls. I am excited to have the opportunity to photograph people and capture memories for them.
Well, I for one, am thankful for the images she captured of me mid-pregnancy with this second baby. I have hardly ANY photos of me pregnant with my first, which is a huge regret! So I am incredibly grateful for the beautiful photo memories I now have, thanks to Cory!
