I love the start of a new project. Especially when I get to return to an old hobby of mine: quilting!

I haven’t made a quilt in many years. Not since I did a Sunbonnet Sue quilt for my neice. Now, I’m meeting once a week for a quilting group with some ladies from my church (including my mom!). It’s been interesting and good to have a project goal set for me each week.

Now, I want to make my boys an outdoor play quilt for summer – I decided sailboats would be unique and fun! Then I found these cute prints by Robert Kaufman for inspiration. I don’t know how many of these I will actually use in the quilt, as I need a lot of solid colors to for the pattern I’m making.

But I like the shape of the sailboat, which I’ll use as my inspiration for the applique boats I’m making!

Sailboat Quilt Inspiration

This week, I need to finalize my fabric choices and start cutting out. Technically this pattern is a 51″ square wall hanging, but I will just keep it for the boys to play on as my color/design choices don’t match a single thing in my home!

I’ll keep you all posted on my progress!

    Ooo, cute fabrics!

I love to sew and to quilt, although this past year I haven’t done a whole lot of either. I have several quilt tops to work on, one top that’s done and not quilted, one that I’m in the process of hand quilting (it’s taking forever…), and one completed quilt. Hopefully in the next couple of months some progress can be made! Once the farmers’ market starts in April, my time is limited. :)

I adore quilts! I want to get started quilting, but am a little intimidated. Just say a simple striped quilt on Pinterst that had me thinking of getting fabric and starting.

Any good tips or tutorials (even books) to point a wannabe in the right direction? I need to make one for each of my kiddos. :)

I love your fabric choices! One of my daughter’s favorite books is Seashore Baby, and at the end is a blanket with sea creatures on it. She always says she wants me to make a quilt like that for her. (That’s what your fabric reminds me of.) I really wanted to sign up for a sewing class this spring but it just wasn’t in the cards. I’d love to make a quilt out of my girl’s baby clothes, so we’ll see how that goes!

I have yet to sew a quilt, but I’m thinking of making one for my cousin’s baby.

So fun! One of the best things about the kids getting older is that I have time to pursue my hobbies again. I do enjoy sewing; don’t do nearly as much as I used to. Those fabrics are really sweet and I bet it’s extra fun to be working with ladies from your church. I’ll look forward to seeing the project as it progresses!

Yeah! So glad to hear you getting into something crafty again. You must be getting into a groove making it easier to find time for yourself and fun things again. How wonderful to take up quilting again and I love your ideas and fabric choices. I look forward to seeing things progress.
