Animal Babies: A Twins Baby Shower Idea!

Once I got over the excitement of my sister announcing her TWIN pregnancy, I bet you can guess what my next thought was!? Twins baby shower! Yes, I love party planning, and was thrilled to do something outside of birthday party themes! Here’s our Animal Babies Twins Baby Shower idea!

Since she’s having twins AND not finding out the gender, we (the party planning committee) decided not to go with a strict theme. She loves animals, and her nursery colors are turquoise, coral-orange, gray, and yellow. So we incorporated those ideas, along with a cute alphabet block motif, into the plans. Plus, since it was a twins baby shower, we also used the loose theme of “doubles” whenever we could!

I couldn’t wait to edit these photos and share with you!twins baby shower ideas

We decorated a LOT with streamers – and let me tell you, coral ANYTHING is challenging and expensive to find for party decor! We sometimes had to throw in some orange. I did find some coral tablecloths and napkins and a roll of streamers on Amazon.com – wish I’d ordered MORE!

There’s a lovely lady at our church who is just a genius with decor. I showed her some of my pinterest ideas, and she just sailed with them. She used large crepe streamer paper along with regular party streamers to create the party backdrop. There’s also a mix of tulle and some fun crinkly colorful yarns draped in for texture.

Tables were decorated mostly with the party favor boxes, but I also threw in some small flower plants I found at Trader Joe’s! Wrapped in coral napkin and yarn, they really brightened up the tables!

We set out a paper “Match the Baby Animal to Mother” game for guests to play while they waited to eat.

My sister looked amazing (and matched our party colors! Wow!) – here we are with my mom in front of a little clothesline full of my sister’s baby clothes! These were all hand sewn by our grandmother! twins baby shower ideastwins baby shower ideas

These animal alphabet party blocks were the main decoration for the tabletops, along with squishably soft plush animals from Melissa & Doug. The favor boxes I wanted were way too cost prohibitive, so I ended up using digital scrapbooking backgrounds, plus animal icons to create stickers that we applied to cupcake boxes.

Inside the favor boxes, were bags of these cute little hand-dipped animal crackers – they are so yummy too!

The first game was an ice breaker / crown mixer game – guests had to find the other guest who had their matching baby sock or hat. The second game was “don’t say twins” – everyone had a baby clothespin, and if a guest caught you saying “twins” then you had to give up your clothespin. The guests with the most clothespins at the end won some treats. For the prizes we used a “doubles” theme and handed out Twix, Doublemint gum, Starbucks Doubleshot Espresso, or Mike & Ikes.

For our meal, we served a buffett brunch with egg casseroles, bacon, sausage, and baked ham, fruit, sweet breads, and a waffle station!

Then, cupcakes for dessert! We had Double Vanilla & Double Chocolate cupcakes topped with more hand-dipped animal crackers. Yum! Plus Italian cookie trays! Double yum!

I hope you enjoyed these twins baby shower ideas! We had a lot of fun putting this party together for my sister!
