Back to School with KleenSlate

Today’s back-to-school featured items is the KleenSlate! This is definitely a product I wish I had when I was a teacher! Happily, I’ll have it around the house for fun learning experiences with my kids!

KleenSlate is a hand-held whiteboard paddle – invented by former teacher, Julia Rhodes to improve the classroom.

I love the low-tech accessibility of this product – in a world inundated by iPhones and “apps,” KleenSlate gives teachers a way to quickly and economically communicate with and engage students. It appeals to both visual and tactile learners!

Students don’t want to be the first to raise their hand, and are often afraid to be wrong – I think these paddles take the angst out of the old “raise your hand” response! With KleenSlate, everyone gets involved in sharing answers in a comfortable (and fun) way! It’s a great tool to check for understanding (formative assessment), save time and paper, and make interacting in large and small groups manageable.

I loved reading how one kindergartner used the KleenSlate board to practice handwriting skills. She didn’t have to waste paper, and she could erase to her heart’s content until the lettering was perfect! Homeschoolers will certainly find great uses for these boards.

KleenSlate goes beyond the classroom – like on the road! What better way to keep the noise and complaining down in the backseat than to hand out KleenSlates and play games with the kids.

In our family, we’ve been enjoying doodling on the KleenSlates – our son always wants to have us draw him trucks and cars. Now I don’t have to constantly clean up and throw away our artwork – we just erase, and start over! And… I use the grid portion for our preschooler to practice tracing a straight line, which is a key writing readiness skill! I like that I don’t have to constantly print out more worksheets every day!

KleenSlates come in a variety of shapes (square/round), formats (blank, graph, handwriting lines, music, venn diagram), and accessories (large/small markers, eraser caps, microfiber cleaning cloths). The markers snap into the handle of the paddles, so you won’t have to search for stray markers to write with!

Visit KleenSlate to buy some for your family, or buy in bulk for your school classroom!
