Bump Ahead: Mountain Mama Activewear Review

One of my goals this pregnancy – especially since I’ll be big and round during the spring and summer months – is to stay active and outdoors a lot more than my last pregnancy! (Last time was holidays, winter, and teaching, which didn’t give me much time for activity!).

I’ve noticed a lack of activewear for expectant mamas in mainstream stores! This is a shame, as pregnant women can stay active as long as they have no complications or medical conditions (please, always check with your doctor!!). And, we should have comfortable great-looking activewear that fits, allowing us to get outdoors and PLAYduring our pregnancy. Having a toddler to chase around this time – I am always active whether I feel like it or not! Here’s my new “active mama” look:

The other benefit to having great-quality workout gear as a pregnant mama… it inspires you to be active. Sometimes you have to dress the part! Every time I put on these super comfortable Mountain Mama Leah Rolldown Yoga Pants and Marni Movement Tank – sure I could relax comfortably on the couch, but I actually feel energized to get outside and take walks or do some stretching. And why shouldn’t I be able to walk a trail, pitch a campsite, or have other active fun while I’m pregnant?

Mountain Mama is a maternity clothing company that caters to active maternity mamas! They aim to design “a maternity wardrobe you won’t feel the need to pile in the backyard and burn once the baby comes.” I love that philosophy! And I have quickly fallen in love with their comfortable, easy-to-layer pieces.

Also, their fabrics don’t skimp on quality – you won’t find “pretend” exercise clothing made from cheapo fabric that just makes you “look” athletic! Because Mountain Mama expects us expectants to be engaging with the outdoors and other exercise, they design their clothing lines with high-performance technical fabrics like Polartec® fabrics that comply with the independent Bluesign environmental standard or plant-based fabrics such as Tencel, Bamboo or Modal.

All Mountain Mama products are made in the USA and produced with a minimal environmental footprint (all the tops have a less than 20-mile footprint from design to mill to manufacture!).

The Leah Rolldown Yoga Pant has a roll down waistband low across the belly for a comfortable, hugging fit. I LOVE how these pants do not constrict my waist/belly, as for me this is a very sensitive area when I am pregnant and I hate any kind of pressure there. A drawcord hem creates a closer fit or transforms the pant into crops, which is great for transitioning across various seasons.

The Marni Movement Tank is designed with the exclusive Mountain Mama fit called Bellyglove™, which eliminates up-drafts, unflattering drape and a sneak peak of that belly. It has an internal shelf-bra and flat straps with a criss-cross back for comfort. The tank is quite comfortable, although my being smaller chested allows a little “sag” across the chest, so I wished it was a bit more fitted there to make it lay flat in that area.

Every piece in the Mountain Mama collection looks fashionable and comfortable at the same time – I’m definitely looking to get some of their tanks for summer, and possibly a swimsuit! I’m not missing the outdoor fun this year just because I got a big belly bump!

BUY IT: Mountain Mama offers baselayers, hoodies, tanks, tops, even nursingwear on their website! Keep up with them on Facebook and Twitter, as I think this is going to be the maternity clothing company to watch!

Thanks to Mountain Mama for sending a product for review and offering a giveaway! All opinions are my own and 100% honest!
