My son at 26 pounds and 21 months, believe it or not, still enjoys being carried. In fact, sometimes I think he enjoys it more now that he gets what I’m doing when I put him in the carrier! He gets really excited when he sees me bring out the carrier and starts asking for a “Pack Ride!” When he was younger, he would strain against the carrier and just want to get down.
Last week, I took him out for a walk through a little town nearby to pick up coffee from a local roaster, and he lay calmly against my back, enjoying the gorgeous late fall weather and his “Pack Ride!” I also found the Boba came in handy when I took him out to eat at a cafeteria-style restaurant. Instead of having to maneuver a stroller, I just had him on my back and got all our food because I had hands free!
The Boba is a solidly built soft-structured carrier. The fabric is soft and high quality, and the prints and colors are fun and modern! The straps adjust every which way to let you totally customize the fit in the waist, chest, tightness of the shoulder straps… Just a few adjustments let me get a good fit within seconds (of couse, it helps that I’ve been using carriers like this for awhile now!).
There are two features of the Boba I really appreciated.
1) The higher rise of the “back” which allows for a smaller baby’s head to have support if they fall asleep (my son is well over the top of this by now).
2) The foot stirrups. Honestly, I remember getting piggy back rides as a child and how they were uncomfortable for ME because my legs would dangle and bob up and down awkwardly (I’m sure they were just as bad for the person I talked into carrying me!). The foot stirrups give your baby or toddler a place to support their feet while riding (and they are also adjustable!). I think this is a unique and much-needed feature.
I really believe a quality baby carrier like the Boba is a must-have for modern moms. I say this NOT as a full-time babywearing mom (Because of back problems I have to watch how much I cart around, despite the comfort of the carrier, you can’t take away the actual weight of the child! So I alternate between carrier/stroller, especially now that he’s heavier). Despite not carrying my baby EVERY day, I keep the carrier with me all the time. I can tell all new moms and mom-to-be’s that a good baby carrier comes in handy in a multitude of situations!
Tell me about how/when you carry your child, and what you’ve found to be your favorite carrier?
