Summer Fruit Tea Recipe – Easy to Make!

You know what the best part of summer is? Delicious cold beverage concoctions we get to enjoy on the daily! Of course, as I have learned, these delicious treats are full of sugar and other bad-for-you ingredients. So I had to come up with an alternative. This summer fruit tea recipe will replace all those over-sugared, high-calorie drinks, and it’s so easy to make!

A summer beverage everyone can enjoy

One year, I was brewing up batch after batch of my yummy Mighty Leaf Iced Tea. Our toddler always asked for sips of my “special” tea.

Of course, since it had caffeine, I refused him my “mysterious” beverage. I felt bad. I enjoyed a delicious summer drink, and my son had to stick to plain water? Didn’t seem right!

Then I remembered the yummy tea my sister-in-law made while we visited in Florida this past April. Of course, that was the answer!

This recipe couldn’t be easier. You just use herbal tea instead of regular to avoid the caffeine!

Ingredients:

  • 6 bags herbal tea (or decaf) – I like to use a Raspberry tea and a Lemon tea for a great flavor combo. But feel free to test out your own flavor combos!
  • 4 cups of water
  • 1 cup organic unsweetened apple juice

Directions:

  • Boil water. Steep all tea bags according to directions for about 10 minutes. You want a stronger than usual brew.
  • Remove tea bags.
  • Add organic apple juice, for a ratio of about 4:1 tea-to-juice. The ratio can be adjusted to your taste, of course.
  • Chill in fridge until cold.

Now enjoy your delicious Summer Fruit Tea!

Add some mint springs for a little zip and color. Use a delightful glass straw to make your drink pretty and reduce waste at the same time! (I got mine at Strawesome but there are many brands!)

Benefits of making your own summer fruit tea recipe

No refined sugars. Yes, the apple juice has fructose but if you use organic and unsweetened, you’re at least adding natural sugars to the tea, plus you’re diluting it quite a bit. And you can control the dilution. Or… if you like, add stevia or another natural sweetener; I just personally don’t like the taste of those. Plus the apple juice adds another layer of fruit flavor to the tea that is really good!

No caffeine! This is a huge selling point for me. Now I can give my kids “tea” without giving them caffeine at their young ages. And while I’m at it, I can cut back my own caffeine consumption, which in the winter goes up a little because I’m often drinking coffee to stay warm! Besides, so many times I’ve had guests over who can’t have caffeine for health reasons, and I’m happy to be able to offer them this delicious drink!

When DO you start allowing caffeine anyway? I remember drinking coffee from my parents’ cups at age five. Not regularly. But still…it’s not something I want my kids to have.

If you try this tea out, let me know how you like it!
