Throwback Thursday: When I Nurse my Baby At Night {Day 9}

Part of this 31 day challenge was to write more poetry about my own parenting experience with my boys. However… as I mentioned at the beginning of the challenge, I kind of just jumped into this 31 days the night before it started.

So… I’m still figuring out what I want to say… and as we have a busy weekend coming up, I’m going to give you a little Throwback Thursday post.

Some of my new readers may not realize this but… I’ve actually written several poetry posts in the four years I’ve been blogging. They are tucked away between all the tips, recipes, reviews, and other info, but they are there!

Here’s one of my first parenting poems, where I write about nursing my first son. I was so excited to finally hit the six-month mark and have gotten through some really rough times as a new nursing mom.

Nurse My Baby Parenting Poem

When I Nurse My Baby At Night

He reaches
Hands, tiny fingers
splay, searching
the darkness
for a familiar face.
I feel
soft touches
baby fingers trace
my chin
and lips, nose, cheek.
I close my eyes
And wonder…
How love knows
To see in the dark.

Julie, your beautiful poem instantly transported me back to nursing my own first born son. Such tender memories. He will be 30 this month, so it was a blessing to go back to those blissful moments of being with him. Thank you so much. Blessings to you and your family

Beautiful words and so beautifully written. I adored feeding my boys in the middle of the night. I felt it was such a privilege to be the only one awake in the house and to have them all to myself.

Beautiful! As a mother nursing a little girl (right now! multitasking!) I can say you captured the beauty of these moments.
