Tot Explorations: Easy Motor Skill Activity

I’ve been wanting to try this activity out with our son for some time, but was waiting to empty a spice jar!

All you’ll need is a lidded container with holes – such as a spice jar or a shaker of some sort. Then you’ll need a few short, thin sticks or pipe cleaners to allow your child to slip them through the various holes!

I used a small spice jar and cut lengths of colorful pipe cleaner. My son LOVES this activity and will play quietly for a good 10-15 minutes (or until he needs me to empty out the “sticks”). I also tried it with toothpicks but the ends were too sharp to have him playing with them all the time.

This simple activity is fun, easily portable for the car or waiting in the doctor’s office, and it helps kids practice motor skills like eye-hand coordination!

I’m always looking for easy motor skill activities – do you have any to share?

Don't know how I missed this post, but what a great and simple idea! Guess Momma needs to buy some pipe cleaners...
