I love attending blogger events! I wish I could get to more of them!
This Saturday, the family and I drove out to Providence, RI, to attend the Macy’s Fall Fashion event, hosted by Clinton Kelly (for those of you who don’t know, he hosts the always humorous What Not To Wear show!).
The Connecticut Bloggers got front-row runway seating! I enjoyed watching all the fashionable outfits go by - textures and colors and pairings for fall!
Here’s one of my favorite outfits – note the mix of shimmery skirt with a tweed jacket? I might ditch the tie though – too boarding-school for me!
Clinton discussed dressing for your body type, and as each model walked down, he explained the outfit and how to wear it. I thought that was so helpful. I would have loved to see some longer skirts/dresses and perhaps some athletic wear tips as I always struggle to look put together when I work out!
After the show, he took questions from the crowd. I got to ask one: “For maternity / pregnancy, how do you build a wardrobe that transitions!” (I find having multiple sets of clothing for pre-baby / pregnancy / post baby frustrating!).
His advice wasn’t too specific but still helpful. “Don’t be the typical American woman who has to have a new outift every day!” he said. “Wear the same quality clothing more often.” So basically, have a smaller wardrobe, just stock it with really good pieces. As someone who loves clothes and buying clothes, and who lives in a multi-season climate, I find this advice hard to follow, but I will try!
Other good tips:
- Never use the word “hate” about your body. Never let anyone talk negatively about your daughter’s body. Don’t compare yourself to media women who have “teams” of people helping them look great.
- Ask yourself, “Would I have looked ridiculous in this outfit 5 years ago? If not, then it will probably also be a trend that looks great 5 years from now.”
So, what’s “in” for fall?
Metallics, riding boots, embellished necklines, knit blazers, and hard case handbags. Also mixing lightweight and heavier weight fabrics, as well as matching your handbag to your belt (formerly a no-no!).
Now I wish I could get a wardrobe makeover!
Have you ever been to a fashion show? What fashion tips help you keep your closet fresh and organized!?
