When it comes to baby gear, one item you should have two of is crib mattress pads! Trust me, when you have to change an entire crib in the middle of the night, you’ll want an extra! Ask me how I know.
As a Kolcraft Mom, I just received the Sealy Allergy Protection crib mattress pad for review, which we definitely needed for our little baby.
Protects against allergens in two ways:
I’d never tried a specific allergy mattress cover, so I was pleased to note that there are two allergen barriers on this pad: a microfiber top and a quilted bottom!
Keeping small particles from seeping into the baby’s mattress itself is how an allergy protective crib mattress pad works. You’ll still want to wash bedding (including the pad) regularly!
Keeping a baby’s sleeping environment allergen free is important because their immune systems are still developing.
Other features to look for in crib mattress pads
A little padding – some crib mattress pads are very thin, or simply “plasticy,” but the Sealy Allergy Protection pad with the quilted fill gives cushion and padding between the baby and the mattress. As our mattress has a rather stiff and thick waterproof coating, I feel this pad makes for a softer sleep surface.
Speaking of waterproofing, this mattress pad also has a 100% waterproof barrier to protect the mattress from messes. Even though our mattress IS waterproof, keeping bodily fluids off the mattress means less cleaning for me!
I love the deep pockets on this crib mattress pad as well. Generally, sheets are a very tight fit on our current mattress, but this pad fit perfectly and easily. The skirt is fully fitted and wraps under the mattress securely.
Whether you’re concerned with seasonal allergies, or have a child who is a chronic asthma sufferer, keeping your child’s sleep free of allergy and asthma instigators can help provide a healthier environment for better sleep!
