Funshine! BabyBanz Sunglasses

Welcome to the FunShine Event here at A Year With Mom and Dad! I have all sorts of reviews and recommendations about gear you need for a fun and safe summer in the sun! Oh, and did I mention the giveaways!? Lots!

First up, a very important part of sun protection – sunglasses!

In my research, I read how babies’ eyes are more susceptible to sun damage, because the fluids in their eyes are clearer than in adults’. Meaning, more of the sun’s harmful rays will reach the cornea, which is extremely dangerous! So it’s important to protect your children’s eyesight with a quality pair of sunglasses.

Beware of a cheap lens, as these just allow children’s irises to open up more allowing in more UVB rays (thought to be the most harmful to the eye).

We’ve been putting BabyBanz Adventure Banz on our 14-month-old boy whenever we’re outside. BabyBanz, developed in Australia, have a UV400 lens, blocking out the entire spectrum of UVA, UVB, and UVC rays from the sun.

I love how  they come in 25 colors!! They have a soft silicone nose/brow piece to add comfort for baby. And a Velcro strap that helps keep glasses in place, and is adjustable to grow with the child. Baby Banz also makes a fun and funky Retro Banz and sunglasses for older children!

And, for those who have children wearing glasses, the Adventure Banz are capable of being replaced with prescription lenses!

Now, I will say, it’s quite difficult to get a toddler to keep sunglasses ON for very long. Of course they want to take the glasses off and play!

I recommend not to delay until your first trip outdoors. Try the glasses inside the house. Put them on your baby to get them used to the idea, keeping them on for longer periods.

Although I still have difficulty getting our boy to keep his on, my strategy is to put two toys in his hands, then slip the glasses on him while he’s distracted. He focuses more on the toys and less on what is on his head.

My baby’s happy playing outside after a long winter. I’m happy he’s well-protected and having fun in the sunshine! Thanks Baby Banz!

Have you tried baby sunglasses on your child? Do you have other strategies for helping them keep their glasses on?
