When I was younger, my neighborhood friends and I would dig through the “dress-up barrel” and don hoop skirts, tutus, and all manner of props to play make-believe scenarios that ranged from the obvious (Little House on the Prairie) to the obscure (we pretended to be beggars for an entire day once. I’m not sure why, maybe we had just watched David Copperfield or something). No matter what we played at, and how far up and down the street our “stage” ranged, we found inexhaustible delight in dressing up in character.
