Breastfeeding was easier this time…
I noticed with some surprise that although I had every intention, I didn’t write many breastfeeding posts with our second baby.
Maybe it was the new experience, or the tongue tie and latch issues of my first baby that led me to write so many breastfeeding posts a couple years ago.
Maybe it’s the relative ease of nursing my second that makes breastfeeding seem routine at this point…
One thing has remained the same with both children and that’s my thankfulness for products like the Bebe au Lait nursing cover making breastfeeding in public or with guests over the house a bit easier – more comfortable and discreet.
I’ve had several nursing covers over the past three and a half years and many of them are Bebe au Lait covers, including this one sent complimentary for my review in the new Fontaine print. (there’s also a pretty new Flora print!). The Fontaine print is soothing and reminds me of the ocean waves… perfect for summer!
Why would anybody need more than one nursing cover? You might ask.
Well. Besides the fact that they might accidentally lose one in the snow at their mom’s house and find it again in the spring…still in great condition except for the fact that some mice probably have an attractive nest lining… (true story).
I also like to have an extra nursing cover for when …
~ The other one is in the wash,
~ A friend forgot their cover at church,
~ Keeping a backup in the diaper bag or car,
~ Enjoying pretty new prints that come out (no seriously, that is a good reason! Moms should feel pretty when they are nursing!). Because nothing is more beautiful than a mama taking care of her baby!

Not always easy. It helps to be a stay at home mom.

I had no problem, my daughter did with her first but is hoping to nurse with her next.

By the time number 3 came along, breastfeeding seemed a lot easier. But I did struggle with it a little with baby #1.

Overall, my experiences were easy-other than one bout of mastitis I had when my daughter was one week old. The first month was a little rough getting used to it, but once 4-5 weeks passed, I enjoyed breastfeeding.

my son has been so great with nursing (minus being a tad painful for the first few weeks) he latched right on and we’re still going strong at 14 months… now we’ll see if my milk supply keeps up with the second during pregnancy or if i’ll be tandem nursing. that should be an adventure!

my nursing experience the second time was much easier than the first, I wish I had known that the baby would need to eat ALL the time the first time , it also helped that we had our own home when my 2 nd son was born 🙂

I haven’t nursed yet, but a friend who has struggled greatly with it is inspiring! She’s a FT working mom, her son is 6 months old, and she’s continued to pump and nurse in spite of having every possible problem associated with breastfeeding.

My first was difficult but second is easier. Both babies were difficult in the first week but once my supply came it, there were no problems

With my daughter nursing was easy the first few months, but after I went back to work my milk dried up by 9 months 🙁 I hope that I learned from my mistakes and will be able to nurse my baby who is due in September for at least 1 year!

I nursed my son for about 22 months. At first it was a bit difficult and painful, but then we got the hang of it.

The first time I gave up, because I was going to college. The last three times, everything has gone smoothly though, and I’m very thankful.

The first time was more difficult until I figured out how to nurse ad keep myself covered at the same time. This last time I had a cover and it was so much easier.

2nd time has been very different… we are tandem nursing.

I have been lucky and have had easy experiences both times. With my ds I was only 17 but watching my mom BF my brother when I was 10 stuck in my head and I knew that was the only way for me! I would go to the nurse’s office during my lunch period and pump during my Senior year in HS! When I had dd 14 years later, it just came naturally. I did get really sore nipples with her though but I pushed through with the help of lanolin! 😉

Well, Ellie had a hard time only at first.

I found a lot of great help at the breastfeeding support group at the hospital where I had my son! It met twice a week and there were two lactation experts there to help with problems. They would weigh my little guy before and after he ate so we knew what he was taking in and in those first few months it was a real comfort to know his weight weekly.

My biggest difficulty with both of our older sons was distractability around 7-9 months. They were both so interested in the world around them that they wouldn’t nurse well at all! With our oldest, nursing necklaces (check out mommy necklaces!) were a godsend. With our second, I found that we needed to be in his room while his older brother got to watch pbs kids. I’m so curious to see if our third little guy hits that bump, too!

Easier second time around. I did not have relatives that nursed their babies for longer than a few months so the Internet was my lifesaver many times over. I nursed my son for over 2 years and plan on at least 2 years with my now 8 month old daughter.

I know this isn’t the case for everyone, but breast feeding has gone really well both times for me, and I’m looking forward to round three in about another month! I’m a lactation consultant, so I’m sure my knowledge base has eased things for myself- and I love that I have been able to help so many mamas too!

I have had 2 really difficult experiences breastfeeding. My first tore me up, not to mention, she was not gaining the “recommended” weight so I was told to stop, my second daughter had a milk allergy I was told to stop once again… I’m due in 2 weeks and I am bent on trying to make this work.

Difficult. I didn’t try with my daughter, but with my son he never got his latch figured out. I tried and tried. Around 6 weeks old I got a nipple shield, but by that time my supply was half gone. I pumped until 10 weeks. In the beginning I was getting 4-6oz at a time, but at 10 weeks I was getting 1/4oz at a time and for me it just wasn’t worth it anymore. So I stopped.
I WILL nurse this baby if my life depends on it. Due in January and can not wait to get started.

I’m breast feeding my first now, and the first two months were very rough due to a combination of oversupply, latch issues, suck issues, and a tendency to get milk blisters. What really helped were lactation consultants. Women should not be afraid to get professional help. Breast feeding may be natural, but it isn’t always easy!

Wow. In the snow? Haha. I have no babies, so I have not had any nursing experiences yet, but hopefully soon!

My nursing experience was easy the first time but very painful for the first couple weeks but went super easy after that. Hopefully with the second one due in August it will be less painful.
