Sorry about that, must be some subliminal thing. However it’s a big part of reality these days…
As many of you know we have been blessed with another healthy boy and my DW has been bugging me to put a few thoughts down. I take this as the ultimate compliment. She is always asking me “what are you thinking!” Isn’t she wonderful? Here are a few random thoughts.
First, I am amazed how quickly life moves and you lose perspective. For instance, the whole nine months thing is a blur and now post-birth it seems Baby E. has been here forever and we’ve always had two children and been exhausted. I can’t believe he is here and now there are two! I can believe the exhaustion though.
I sort of had a “Deer in the Headlights” thing during labor, mostly due to the on-call doctor in a brilliant demonstration of bedside manner stating: ” It’s been a while since I’ve delivered a baby.” EXCUSE ME?! Quick. You-Tube… search: deliver a baby. Hey Doc, got a minute?
In the You-Better-Be-Right category: Said on-call Doctor, who at this point in labor NEVER delivered a baby as far as I am concerned, tells my DW: “Two more pushes..and he’ll be right out…guaranteed!” I was in my mind saying… Doc, you better be right or we are all dead!
And… exactly how does the company that makes hospital “furniture,” you know – the pull out beds for Dads – stay in business? Must be owned by back doctors.
Shock-and-Awe moment: My DW shortly after delivery: “Honey, we need another one!” Aahhhhhh… OK… don’t you want to get home first… try out the two? (If we do have a third… let’s get a doctor that has delivered babies!)
Scientific Observation: How in the world can something so precious, delicate, and tiny produce so much waste! WOW! Clearly this little one has no idea about the Law of Conservation of Mass. Can’t wait for more bowel movement discussions… YES! Note to self: Should have ordered the already potty trained kid next time.
Exponential Growth: Where did all this laundry come from? We have two kids and two adults… but 16 times the laundry! What’s that about? Its not like newborn clothes are huge. The volume is staggering, but I’m getting a great workout going up and down the stairs.
The best part about having two kids so far has been reminiscing. Our toddler is two-and-a-half, and it’s been great recalling him as a newborn. All the newborn clothes, toys, and gadgets being re-used bring back fond memories and moments, re-living a lot of “firsts.” It’s also been great to be home during the summer “vacation” to help out while my DW recovers. (I hope she is ready for when I go back to school!). Plus, sitting on the beach with our baby isn’t so rough:
I am really looking forward to seeing both boys grow up together… and who knows if they will have another sibling!

Love this post. After our daughter was born in 2010, we told friends the that 2010 baby models still leak and that quirk needs to be worked out. It’s slowly happening.

I love this post. So much of this sounds familiar and I’ve been through the whole nine month pregnancy, labor, and delivery thing seven times. You’re doing a great job and before you know it your laundry basket will fill very fast because there clothes are huge… possibly bigger than yours or Julies.

Wow, I would have had a heart attack if the doctor told me it had been awhile since delivering a baby, yikes! We have a 2.5 yr old and now a 2 wk old. My husband has noticed that he spends more time with our oldest now, but doesn’t spend as much time with the baby as he did the first time around. We also enjoy reminiscing about the newborn days with our first!
