Mommy, Carry Me!

This used to be a popular refrain with me when I was little. I loved to be carried. I begged to be carried down the hall to bed, on hikes, etc. It’s fun to ride around higher than usual, in the safety of your parents’ arms. Now that I’m carrying our baby around, (at only 5 months) I wonder how my parents had the strength to carry ME when I was 8, 9, 10 and still begging to be carried! Good grief, I probably broke their backs (well, I was a skinny kid).

I love the idea of baby wearing: the convenience of having my hands free, the cuddliness of feeling the baby’s warm body against mine, the safety of having baby near me and not touching germy things in store/public. Okay, and I confess, I love that baby wearing helps me avoid the “can I hold the baby?” dilemma (I still struggle with feeling bad about telling people ‘no,’ even though I don’t believe it’s best for my baby to be passed around a lot at this age).

However, I had a hard time finding a baby carrier that worked for me! I tried to get a sling wrap, but couldn’t find one in my size at the baby boutique (that went out of business the day we visited!); I was reluctant to order one online without trying it in the store. And, even though we received a very pricey and high-quality baby carrier for my baby shower (that my husband uses and enjoys), when I tried it on with the baby, the buckles hit me in a very awkward place on my ribs, and it tugged really hard on my back (I have pretty severe scoliosis, so that was a NO NO!).
I wanted to baby carry so badly, I even bought 6 yards of gauze material (in a hideous hot green b/c that was the only color the store had that didn’t remind me of vomit). I also had to hear the lecture from the fabric harpie, I mean, cutter about the dangers of baby slings (b/c the news had just done all these segments on it that week, lucky me!). For a few weeks, I faithfully wound this material around me and the baby, criss-ing and cross-ing until I tied him on. It definitely worked (thanks to my friend Shari and the online videos), but I found the lengths of material to be awkward and bulky, and hated having to re-straighten everything each time.
And then… on the clearance rack at Target – welcome the Infantino Wrap & Tie! I had almost given up on baby wearing but decided to try it out! And I LOVE it!
  1. First, it’s COMFORTABLE! No buckles to dig at me. And it doesn’t have yards of material so it’s extremely lightweight. The padded shoulder straps are so comfy for me.
  2. Also, the 3 in 1 design lets you wear the baby facing you, facing out, and on your back. So I’ll be using this carrier for a long time to come!
  3. I like my khaki/modern print, but I soooo wish they’d had the black/blueberries in stock when I bought mine, because I love that print so much more!

All in all, the Infantino Wrap &Tie is a fabulous baby carrier in and of itself, but I love it even more because it allowed me to carry my baby to my heart’s content!

What is your favorite baby carrier? How long did/do you “baby wear?”

DISCLOSURE: As a matter of fact, I received no compensation or free product what-so-ever to write this review. I just simply love the product! 🙂

I accidentally clicked on this but it was serendipitous because I've been researching new carriers to use now that our little girl is getting a bit older and wants more freedom but she's still a tiny 16 lbs girl. We're looking into an Ergo - have you tried any others than this Infantino one?I have a ring sling I made, a regular New Native sling, Baby Bjorn, and hip hammock (one made by the original designer - it's so much nicer than the playtex brand and the lady is so cool!). But I'm wanting something I can put on my back.

I have my ring sling that a friend made me. I like it because it's super lightweight material but I had some friends who liked the K'Tan so I bought one. It's a wrap and super stretchy and comfy. Hey, I should blog about this! :)
