Soothing babies with sensitive skin

I’m sure they got it from me. The fair, easily irritated skin. I have my father’s fair, “red-head” skin tones and now we have babies with sensitive skin, too.

When you have babies with sensitive skin, you’re always on the lookout for what might prove to be an irritation. Running your hands over fabrics and inspecting ingredients on skin care products is a habit.

Happily, aden + anais has partnered with me to share with you the exciting news that their delightful organic muslin is now available in crib bedding! aden + anais sent me their starstruck organic crib sheet. I love stars and have always had a few star motif items around the boys’ room! The crisp white and cool blue stars are a soothing print for sweet dreams! I love running my hands over the smooth and soft fabric of organic cotton muslin.

Sorry about my baby’s teary-eyed look – he thought I was putting him to bed when I was trying to get photos! 🙂 He really DOES love his new blankie and cuddles up with it all the time!

Organic muslin is a good choice for babies with sensitive skin:

~aden + anais organic cotton muslin is GOTS Certified

~the open weave fabric allows for airflow

~muslin stays cool in summer and warm in winter

~muslin gets softer with each wash, so every time it is a better and better feel for your baby

We were also sent the aden + anais organic muslin dream blanket, another soothing product for babies with sensitive skin. I have loved my own daydream blanket so much, I was happy to have our baby wrapped up in his own smaller version! No scratchies for him – only four layers of organic cotton muslin, keeping our baby warm and comfortable all night long. Plus the generously sized blanket is great for tummy time and playtime!

Lotions to sooth babies with sensitive skin

Another way I prevent irritated skin on my babies is through constant skin hydration. I push them to drink water (my children are very resistant!). I also give them “baby massages” using skincare with gentle and mild ingredients. When it comes to putting lotions on my babies, I’m always checking the labels to see a lot of “NOs” – that’s right, I want to see:
NO Fragrance
NO Color or Dyes
NO Parabens or SLS
NO Phthalates
NO Propylene Glycol
So I was happy to receive Exederm products that fit my “NO list,” to test out on my babies with sensitive skin.

I tried the Exederm Flare Control Cream – the ONLY paraben-free hydro cortisone cream in the US! It’s received the National Eczema Association Seal of Approval with a perfect 5/5 score! Both boys have been afflicted with frequent diaper rash even though we use cloth diapers. A little dab of the Flare Control Cream (avoiding the private areas), has cleared up a rash overnight. (NOTE: Dr. Sears recommends hydro cortisone creams on diaper rash for just a few days at a time, lest you damage sensitive skin in the diaper area.)

After baths, I soothe my baby’s skin with a baby massage using Exederm Baby Eczema Cream. Our little guy loves it when I tickle him with my lotioned up fingers – he giggles up a storm! It’s so fun! I love the velvety soft skin he has as a result.

Soothing babies with sensitive skin is a full time job. Organic crib sheets and mild ingredient creams help my babies fend off and heal from irritations.

What foods, products, lotions have you found works to soothe your babies with sensitive skin?

Thanks to aden + anais and Exederm for sending products to facilitate this post. All opinions are 100% my own.

I treat a lot of eczema in kids. It is a full time job for parents, too. Often I emphasize moisturizing directly after a warm bath of at least 15 minutes of soaking without soap. Don't have to have fancy creams unless desired - shortening or coconut oil work well, too. Those sheets and blanket look wonderful. I want some for me!
