Teaching time to toddlers ~ the Zazoo Clock

Since we transitioned our son to a toddler bed last year, then a twin bed this year, we have had a real challenge getting him to follow nap time guidelines.

Especially since the days stay lighter longer, he thinks light outside means its “wake-up” time.

Of course, a three year old can’t tell that it’s only been ten minutes of nap time and he needs to stay in bed longer!!

When I saw the Zazoo clock at the Toy Fair in 2012 I was instantly interested and now I’m thrilled Zazoo sent me one of their clocks to review at no charge.

The Zazoo photo clock does more than display time. The main function is to alert children of sleep time versus wake time. Set photo alarms that change the picture for nap times (start and end) and bedtime (sleep and wake).

At nap time the sleeping dinosaur alerts our son that he is supposed to be in bed sleeping. When the daytime kite picture appears, he knows he can get up! Now, is is supposed to eliminate the constant, “Can I get up now?” questions. But to be honest, potty training kinda overrode that benefit!

The Zazoo clock has photos and music stored in memory, but you can also use a USB to have your own photos and music. (Although I think my son would clamor for the sleeping Dino again!).

Let’s see, what else? Oh, yes, the glow of the clock can even provide a night-light effect. I actually found it a bit brighter than I like for sleeping purposes, but at nap time it doesn’t matter.

The Zazoo photo clock comes in a variety of colors and prints. The modern look and ability to change photos and music will make it a great clock for children as they grow, too! Each clock retails for $89.99 and additional customizations like your child’s name or holiday greetings can be purchased for a few more dollars. Purchase the Zazoo photo clock directly on the Zazoo website!

So, while the Zazoo clock didn’t solve all our “getting out of bed” problems, it’s helping our son learn that there’s set times for sleeping, and to self-monitor when he’s allowed out of bed.

Do you have difficulty with children up too early?

Thanks to Zazoo Kids for sending a product to review. All opinions are 100% my own.

Most of the time I don't have an issue with this though this week were a couple of mornings I wished he would have stayed in bed longer but when the sun is up what can you say?

That is really neat. Sadly, I think it would get broken far to easily in our house.
