After check in at the Hawk Inn and Mountain Resort in Plymouth, Vermont – good mid-week rates although pricier than we typically go for (um, hello – camping!?) – we ate at Wicked Good Pizza in Ludlow. Matthew had what I call the Meat, Meat, Meat, Meat, Meat pizza (known as the Roadkill, with pepperoni, sausage, meatball, ham, and bacon). I had the Tuscan with pesto, garlic, artichoke, kalamata olives, and mozzarella (I didn’t realize it was a white pizza, I would’ve preferred sauce but it was still yum).

Outdoor Pool @ Hawk Inn |
In the mornings, the walk to the River Tavern for breakfast (included) took us on a tour through the inn, where walls lined with local art featuring New England scenes felt like an instant art gallery.

At the Swim Pond |
Day two found our baby trundled over hill and dale, staring at the eggshell blue bowl of the sky or a roof of lacy green leaves. We tramped through a Hansel and Gretel forest on a walk from the marina to the swim pond for a picnic lunch with kingfishers and herons (or cranes?). Dinner was at The Garlic in Killington for hot and creamy fettuccine alfredo and Seafood pasta in a cozy candlelit atmosphere, followed by one of the over 100 flavors of ice cream at Scoops in Ludlow.
We left feeling refreshed; I am sure we’ll return! (Did I mention the pools?). Going home, we stopped in Amherst, Massachusetts to visit the Emily Dickinson house, but that’s another story… and one our little guy slept through (trying to bring culture to this kid is hard work!)

I love Emily Dickinson! This poem is a favorite…IF I can stop one heart from breaking,I shall not live in vain;If I can ease one life the aching,Or cool one pain,Or help one fainting robinUnto his nest again,I shall not live in [email protected]

We used to head to the family cabin but now with a toddler and infant, it is much harder to go anywhere with all the gear. Plus, the cabin is a death trap for little kids with a spiral stair case and a loft with a railing that little kids can fall right through. Not to mention the lake outside and rat poison. Yes – we haven't been there for a retreat in quite some time!Glad you're having a nice relaxing time. Enjoy!
