Even though we had a lot of gear from our first baby, there were a few things I wanted to change for this baby.
One of these was his sleeping arrangements! As much as I love to snuggle my baby, when I sleep I am dead to the world and toss and turn. So I do not feel comfortable with the baby in my bed overnight. I knew we needed some kind of side cosleeper/bassinet arrangement.
With our first son, we used the newborn attachment on the pack and play until he was big enough to go in his crib. But this took up a big corner of our bedroom and was not easy to pull up close to the bed.
This time, I’ve got a better solution – the Contours Classique 3-in-1 Bassinet, with so many great features that have improved the baby’s sleeping arrangements!
Notice the lovely wood and fabric design – very elegant, and fits our room decor much better than “baby-themed” items you’ll typically find on the market. I like the “real furniture” look of the solid wooden frame. Hubby put it together quickly the afternoon after our baby was born!
The compact size gives us space and more ways to arrange it in the room. The bassinet is mounted on wheels/casters for portability (if we had a one-level house, this would be awesome for moving baby from room to room while he is sleeping!). You can”brake” the wheels with the locking casters to keep the bassinet stable.
The sleeping part is actually a pull-out Moses basket, adding versatility. Now when we want to go to the beach house or to visit grandparents, we can just bring the basket part instead of the entire bassinet or the pack and play. The basket comes with a mattress pad, sheet, and has mesh side vents for air flow. There are also two carry handles (you need both hands!) and a retractable shade.
Underneath the bassinet is a snap-on storage bin, which has been handy for baby’s clothing and blankets. Later, I plan to store some soft toys for him to easily reach for playtime!
Now, I know what you’re thinking, “but babies only use a bassinet for a few months!” (This bassinet is only designed for infants up to 3 months or 15 pounds). Ah, yes, but when this piece has done its duty as a bassinet…it becomes a changing station! Attach the included changing table to the top and voila – instant changing station! And the changing station is designed to hold babies up to 25 pounds, so you’ll get a lot of use out of this feature (our first son barely made 20 pounds at 1 year!). Also, there’s side storage for diapers and bottles of lotions, etc. Very convenient! When we reach this stage, we’ll probably move the bassinet downstairs so we can take full advantage of this feature!
We have found the Contours Classique 3-in-1 Bassinet adds versatility to our baby’s sleep arrangements, without cramping our space. I think it will far outlast this baby and any others we may have, as it’s solidly constructed! All the fabrics are hand washable, which we already had to test out when our son “could not contain himself” (!) and the fabrics are thick and durable.
Also, the customer service at Kolcraft / Contours is superb – I had a small issue with one of the snaps on the underneath storage bin, and with just a five minute phone call, the representative ordered me a new piece to attach! Loved how they handled this situation!
BUY IT: The Contours Classique 3-in-1 Bassinet retails for $199.99, and can be found at Buy Buy Baby and Sears stores, as well as online at various retailers.
