The first Christmas with baby is such a special time… but often people don’t know what to buy for little ones, because the mom usually just had a shower or “sprinkle.” These gift ideas for babies might be just the thing for that sweet little one on their first Christmas!
Suitables Bibs – Play and eat at the same time!

Full Coverage Baby Bib – My boys play dress up nearly every day. It’s hard to get them out of their costumes. Sometimes I let them eat with them on, but they get dirty! We received Suitables Role Play Bibs (no longer available), kids can be “dressed up” at the table! These role play bibs were adorable when my boys were little, but today there are dozens of prints and designs to delight your toddler! These are a perfectly fun way to keep kids clean!

Developmental toys and playmats
We’ve been having so much fun watching our newly toddling tot try to keep up with interactive baby friends that move, play music, and encourage exploration. Look for baby‑activated crawl‑and‑move companions on Amazon that bark or play cheerful tunes and shift direction when touched—perfect for little ones who love animals and need a little playful encouragement to move around.
For floor play and developmental fun, there are plenty of activity gyms and play mats with arches, mirrors, hanging toys, and textures that grow with your baby from tummy time into crawling and beyond. These create a cozy play space that encourages reaching, rolling, and exploring while keeping toys within sight and reach.
Great for 0–18 months (and often beyond), these interactive toys make floor time more engaging and help little ones build strength and curiosity as they play.

Baby care items
Eventually our bald babies did grow hair. So I finally needed a baby comb and brush set! The Green Sprouts wooden set is attractive and easy to hold (also sturdier than plastic sets!). The soft bristles on the brush soothe our baby and entertain him as well!
In the bath, avoid large slippery areas by placing tiny rubber bathmats all over the floor of the tub. Made of 100% rubber, they are easy to stick on and peel off as needed. The multicolored whale shapes are fun for babies to look at in the bath as well!
HALO Sleep Sack – Microfleece wearable blanket
I miss having a little one in a swaddle – he’s gotten so big! The good news is you can keep your babies and toddlers warm with Halo Sleep for years!
Here’s a recap: The Halo® SleepSack® wearable blanket replaces loose blankets in the crib that can cover your baby’s face and interfere with breathing. In addition to sleeping safer, it helps babies sleep better, too. It’s a warm cuddly blanket they can’t kick off; ensuring baby sleeps soundly throughout the night. Recognized as “Hip Healthy” by the International Hip Dysplasia Institute. Inverted zipper for easy diaper changes.
HALO Innovation’s SleepSack® wearable blankets have become the standard for hospital nurseries and parents alike. In fact, 1,000 hospital nurseries use the HALO SleepSack Swaddle instead of blankets through the HALO Safer Way to Sleep Initiative. HALO Innovations also offers free Safe Sleep Practices kits to childbirth educators to help further the cause of SIDS prevention.

Kushies – Baby essentials and cloth diapers
![]()
Kushies®, based in Ontario, Canada, offers one-stop shopping for all baby and toddler essentials: apparel, toys, cold weather stroller gear, bath, and more! Kushies is the world’s largest washable diaper leader, and carries a wide range of cloth diapering products. I tried out a variety of items:
Waterproof Diaper Cover – a super lightweight cover that fits over all Kushies diapers as well as other diapering systems that require a separate cover. Fully adjustable with elastic gussets at the legs. A wrap style design for easy on/off.
Basic Fitted Diaper – two layers of 100% cotton flannel with a double soaker for absorbency. Easy to use hook / loop closure (no pins!). This diaper is generously cut, so not as trim as some other cloth diapers, and requires a separate waterproof cover. Machine wash and dry; infant and toddler sizes.
Waterproof Training Pant – with a 100% cotton flannel inner, these generous fit training pants save money and waste while your child learns to use the potty. The bold prints and colors appeal to children, and these pants are easy on/off for little kids to use independently.
Waterproof Wetbag – a baby essential, perfect for soiled diapers, dirty clothes, wet swimsuits or as dry storage for extra clothes, diapers or toys. Drawstring closure. Available in a variety of sizes and prints.
Flushable Biodegradable Diaper Liners – easier diaper cleanup – just toss in toilet or wastebasket. Use with cloth diapers or disposable. Single roll – 100 sheets. (Not recommended for septic).
Find these cloth diaper products and baby gear at Kushies.
These gift ideas for babies have been sponsored by the brands mentioned in this post, and I was sent products for my use and review.

Instead of a card at a baby shower, I like do use a baby board book and write a personal message in the inside cover. It will last longer after the rest of the cards are in the trash. The Splat Mat looks super practical. It's a cute way to say your kid is going to need a tarp. :)

Halo sleep sacks have taken the worry out of sleep - now I can enjoy sleeping a little more knowing my baby is warm and isn't pulling a blanket over his head :)
