6 Strategies for Hosting a Healthy Party

With the advent of fall county fairs and apple festivals – so begins the season of goody-goody-gumdrops! Between October and January, there are so many parties, get-togethers and other food-ful affairs, it’s easy to load up on empty calories. Like at my sister’s housewarming where I think I ate nothing but cookies ALL DAY!

And… guess who’s tagging along for the sugar-filled ride? Our kids!

There’s so many great alternatives to the typical suger bombed party these days! Who says it HAS to be all about sugar!?

Whether it’s a birthday party or fun-filled holiday gathering with a bunch of little ones, Earth’s Best is excited to provide a multitude of festive and nutritious tips to host a party!

  • Looking for healthy snacks to serve? Children actually love strawberries, bananas, grapes, and apple slices. Spice things up by cutting fruits into fun bite-sized shapes.
  • Kids will expect to go home with a favor bag. Shift the focus away from an unhealthy bag of snacks by making one of the party activities a creation to make and take home. Try a craft table where children can make their own paper bag puppets or handprint crafts.
  • For healthy and spill proof beverages, offer individual organic juice boxes or milk boxes.
  • Make a frozen cake out of fat free frozen yogurt or fat free ice cream. Serve fat free ice cream cut out into cookie cutter shapes. (Soften ice cream, spread out onto flat jellyroll pan, refreeze until hard, and using desired cookie cutter shapes, cut out individual serving size ice-cream treats. You can decorate them with sprinkles, or raisins, peanuts, etc.)
  • Have your child create the decorations for his/her own party! Let your child make drawings and assist them in cutting construction paper into fun wall decorations. Don’t forget to add a little bit of sparkle with glitter!
