Spring Cleaning: DIY Sweeper Clothes by Caboose Cloth

Since we have all hardwood floors, I use our Swiffer a lot. Nearly daily. We also have some microfiber sweepers too. And believe me, I got TIRED of buying throw-away Swiffer cloths, and I kept running out of my FEW microfiber cloths.

So I looked into making some myself. Surprisingly they are super easy. Here is how:

  • Buy some non-pilling fleece fabric. Or check the remnants bin at Joann’s or Walmart – you can usually find TONS of fleece in good sizes.
  • Cut rectangles that are 10.5×9 inches – you don’t even need to sew them!
  • Attach to sweeper and dust away!

Seriously, it’s that easy. I made myself a little stack of them, because I need them upstairs and downstairs. Then I made my sister, mother, and sister-in-law one each, but will probably make them more. You could probably use old towels, t-shirts or flannel, but then you’d have to sew the edges to stop fraying.

I think they work pretty well – definitely great for dust and hair sweep-ups. The don’t “pick up” the small gritty crumbs like a disposable Swiffer cloth would because they don’t have those grooves. But you can just kinda push them in front of the sweeper.

They wash up pretty well with little shrinkage that I can see. I have just started making/using these, so time will tell how they hold up with daily use.

I’m saving money. And get to clean the floor with some funky printed clothes!

I am thinking of stocking these in my Caboose Cloth Etsy store. Would you personally buy them or would you be like me and make them yourself?

We use white vinegar and water to clean our hardwood floors. These clothes would be good for dusting them.

Yikes, spring cleaning just seems to drag on and on sometimes. I like to work room by room.
