What is it about August? It’s still summer but suddenly I find myself longing for some chalk in hand, and a lesson planner!
In my back to school planning for homeschooling our preschooler, my main concern is to address math skill areas, as we mostly focused on reading comprehension last year.
Thanks to my partnership with Melissa & Doug as one of their guest bloggers, I created a simple Guide to Counting Skills, which includes this One-to-One Correspondence activity.
One-to-One Correspondence is important for accuracy in counting. Most little kids are so excited about counting, they go too fast and start to count several objects as one, or skip some objects in their hurry to get to the next.
My son does this all the time, so I created this One-to-One Correspondence printable to help him slow down.
Using the One-to-One Correspondence Counting Printable
The printable can be used a two ways:
1. Have the child point to the X to count
2. Have the child place a wooden bead, car, or other small object onto each X as they count. (This is great for when kids are skipping an X or adding more than what is there).
Another reason I created this worksheet set is to help my two year old with number recognition. He’s already counting to three, and I want him to learn right away the correct printed figure for each number.
There’s so many ways to make counting into an activity that both parents and kids can enjoy! Check out the entire Guide to Counting on the Melissa & Doug Blog today.

My little guy counts every grouping to ten! There could be three but he'll just keep on counting them until he gets to ten. And lately he's skipping 7 and 8, we have no idea why. At 2 1/2 I'm not sure if he's quite ready for these but I'll be keeping them around (Pinterest!) for future use.
