About Being A Mom

Thanks to T-Rex Mom for the great questions about motherhood – she tagged me to answer and I thought it was a good chance for me to reflect and record some mom-moments…

1. What is one of your most embarrassing mom-moments?
I would say it was when I was told that I had projectiles in my car and was using my car seat unsafely. That was not only embarrassing but also scary to me. I thought I had done it all correctly and then to realize that for 6 months, I was putting my baby at risk was really humiliating!

2. What is the weirdest advice anyone has ever given you regarding parenting or regarding your child? What was your response?
It’s not so much weird advice, it’s the strange people who give normal advice in very weird ways. Like one stranger came up to us in a store and said something about “oh, I could just eat babies up!” and the way she said it… I sorta wondered if she meant literally – she was just kinda creepy! Another person just looked at me and said eerily, “Don’t let him grow up – it goes too fast!” Okay, I understand the sentiment behind this, but the tone of voice was almost as if the person thought I really COULD stop my baby from growing up. So, nothing totally out there, but sometimes people can creep me out a bit! My response is to laugh nervously and try to get away as fast as I can.

3. While you were pregnant, did you ever have the random stranger stop and tell you the most intimate details of the birth of her child? How did this make you feel and did you say anything in response?
Well, I must confess I accept all stories about childbirth from anyone. I love to hear birthing stories in detail because I was preparing myself for the worst! And I also picked up some valuable tips along the way, and had a great idea of what to expect! I figured if I heard as many horror stories as possible, then the chances were slim those would actually happen to me, and I could put my own pain in perspective! Um… that sort of worked. I don’t think anything really puts the pain of childbirth into perspective at the moment you’re going through it though!

4. What do you do to maintain your sanity when you’ve had a long day and/or night with the kids? I fall back on my husband’s wonderful help! He is always good about taking over bathtime or running an errand, or washing up the dinner dishes when it’s just been a bit much. Sometimes I daydream about having a maid. That always helps. 🙂 A nice bubble bath is awesome too… but I haven’t seen one of those in about forever! 🙂

So those are some mom-bits for you! Due to the time of year, and I know all bloggers are super busy, I’m not going to officially tag anyone, however, if you’d like to “consider yourself tagged” then please post your answers to these questions on your blog and come back here and leave me the link so I can read more about your experiences!
