It’s summer. The season of bugs and sun! And trying to keep both at bay.
As my family moves towards more natural and organic living, personal care products are a concern. I wavers between wondering if “natural” body care products will work. Or if “chemical” products have harmful ingredients that could enter the bloodstream and disrupt hormones. This year, to protect my family from sun, we’ve been sticking with sun protective clothing (which incidentally, tends to work well for bug protection too!) or “mineral” based sunscreens with non-nano particle zinc oxide.
I can’t let this little Babe in the Woods get burnt and bitten!
How is it working for us? Well, we just spent 9 days camping in the woods of northern Vermont. Definitely exposed to bugs and outdoor elements! To keep us safe from sun during the day and bug bites at night, we brought All Terrain Co. repellent and sunscreen. Guess what? None of us have a single bug bite or sunburn!
I am impressed with the quality and effectiveness of the All Terrain Co. brand. They’ve received awards and recognition from Sport Diver Magazine, the New York Times, and National Geographic Adventure.
But most importantly, I tried their products on myself, my baby and other family members. They worked great!
All Terrain Co. Phineas & Ferb KidSport Spray SPF 30 sunscreen is oxybenzone-free, with full-spectrum UVA (skin cancer) and UVB (sunburn) protection. I loved that it comes in a spray bottle; this proved very effective for application on my little toddler! The KidSport spray is water/sweat resistant (up to 80 minutes in water, although we did not stay in the water long enough for this!). The mineral barrier comes from transparent zinc oxide (19%), and is non-whitening, non-greasy, fragrance-free and won’t cause eye sting. $13.49 per 4 oz. bottle.
For bugs, we used Herbal Armor Insect Repellant. This repellent is DEET-Free, with six natural-repelling oils at 25% total concentration (Oils of Soybean, Citronella, Peppermint, Cedar, Lemongrass, and Geranium!). Yes, as with most natural repellents, the predominant smell is of citronella, but there are pleasing hints of lemon and other aromatics so you don’t smell like a candle or tiki torch! And it last several hours! A patented time-released encapsulation clinically proven 100% effective for two hours and 95.8% for three hours. Good for sensitive skin as well as sweat / water resistant. Once again, the spray bottle was a good way to apply the repellent with no mess. $8.49 per 4 oz. bottle.
If you have concerns about your body care products, check the Skin Deep website to find out whether the sunscreen you’re using is safe! And definitely get ahold of some of these great All Terrain Co. products!

All Terrain Co.also has a dedicated kids’ product line, and a pet products line!
