What boy doesn’t love a toolbox? Our son has banged everything like a hammer pretty much since he could move his arms around. Binky, sippy cup, food…
EcoMom sent us this oh-so-boy-ish Melissa & Doug Take-Along ToolBox for Boys’ Week.
The bright colors, solid wood construction, and simple designs are perfect for toddlers, allowing them to simply play and use their imagination! I love how this toy helps babies practice fine motor skills by screwing the nuts onto the bolt, or pounding a nail into the toolbox case.
When we opened this up, my son had a fine time taking all twenty-four wooden pieces out of the tool box, banging the hammer and waving the wrench around. I helped him put two pieces of wood between a screw and bolt. He really liked fiddling with the nuts and bolts the most at this point.
After baby went to bed, I stayed up trying to figure out how to “build” with this kit. Yeah, I’m not exactly Handy Mommy, if you know what I mean! I did figure out how to attach several boards together with the screws.
Hubby taught me about the slits in the nails that allow them to slip through the holes and then tighten. Squeeze the end of the nail together slightly and the nail slips right back out! How did he know that?
What my husband also likes is the classic red, blue, yellow and green colors of this Melissa & Doug set. I do too. And that it’s going to be a terrific toy our toddler can grow into over the next couple years too!
