Boys will be boys…

I’ve been trying to capture my sons in their natural environment… which lately happens to be mostly the house as cold weather has set in. And you know what they say… boys will be boys! So I’m finding them in some pretty funny situations lately!

As I explore various shots and angles, sometimes posing them, other times trying for candids (nearly impossible with a very aware toddler on the loose), I end up with quite the collection of images to catalog our days.

Take this one:

I walked into my son’s room during naptime to find him anything but napping! When he saw me, he froze like this! I asked, “What are you trying to do?” He seriously informed me: “I’m-I’m tryin’ to get TALL-er. Like Daddy!” Hmmm… a likely story. I guess crib days are coming to an end. (Don’t you love that determinedly-curled toe around the crib rail?).

Spotting him donning his engineer’s cap for train time makes me smile. He has whole scenarios which he narrates to himself. “Train coming! Chhg-chhg-chhg! Oh noooooo! There’s another train! Stop! Stop! Here comes Percy! Tikka-tikka-tikka!” I sit and watch and try to figure out the schemas shifting and forming in his little mind!

Then there’s this bugga-boo… my sweet and generally calm little man with deep loden-green eyes…who loves to hang out on Mommy and Daddy’s bed… who has decided to hate his bouncy seat this week! He must really love that Tempur-pedic, because he is calmer here than anywhere else I put him down! Except maybe here:

As I watch him grow, I wonder what the next step will be for him. Rolling over? (I’m thinking no, because he hates being on his tummy now!). Grasping/picking up a toy? (He is very close on this one!). Eating foods? (He probably won’t enjoy sweet potatoes at Thanksgiving, but perhaps shortly after that). I know a lot of people go right to “real people food,” but I kind of enjoy the whole process of feeding soft foods, making my own sometimes. Is anyone else with me on that one?

These are just our boys, being boys. Intensely, fiercely, wonderfully…

Sometimes a toddler sleep sack can help deter the climbing. Also, I'm surprised he didn't try to make his escape by the plastic drawer end. He could have used it as a stepping stone on his way down to the floor. =)

Love the photograph of your son climbing out of the crib. That's almost an everyday occurrence at our house. Yes, I need to upgrade my daughter to a big girl bed.

So cute! My little man hasn't figured out climbing out of the crib yet but it's only a matter of time. :-) With both of my little ones I've started out with soft foods, like bananas, applesauce and mashed yams or sweet potatoes, veggies and so on. I have tried some different packaged baby foods but I try to stick with ones I make myself since I know exactly what they're eating. I haven't tried Earths Best yet, I don't even know if its sold in our area but I've been on the lookout for it in our local grocery stores since I would like to give it a try. On a total side note, how do you like your Tempur-pedic? My husband has had back pain since an injury several years ago and I've been wondering if a Tempur-pedic would help with that or not.
