We’d looked at Carnegie Hotel & Spa online when booking our overnight stop on the way home from Florida. But then we opted to book at the same hotel as my parents.
On the drive up from Florida, I got an email from Priceline that there was an overbooking so they had moved us to Carnegie Hotel in Johnson City, Tennessee.
The Lobby
Vintage-style revolving doors greeted our entry to the deep amusement of our four-year-old. A deep, plush lobby welcomes you just inside, with opulent floral arrangements, antique chairs and a fireplace. The Baroque decor is charming, indeed.
The staff could not have been more friendly and courteous (and I am a stickler for high-end customer service!).
The Room
We had a room on the end of the top floor. I recommend an end room if you have kids, especially because ours decided to play “rooster” at nine p.m. that night! Eek!
I love when hotels have awesome bathrooms, and The Carnegie did not disappoint! With a huge tub, a separate shower, and a double sink vanity. There’s plenty of space for a family to get ready. (I’d personally recommend more hooks or shelves for towels and toiletry bags).
Sleigh beds are my favorite! I’ve never seen a hotel with sleigh beds, and these kept the room from being ho-hum-hotel room decor!
A large work desk, ample armoire storage, hidden fridge inside a side table, and comfy leather armchair rounded out the room.
We had lots of space, and plenty of comfort! Also…Starbucks for the in-room coffee brewer (more creamers and sugars, please!).
We didn’t get to check out the restaurant this time, but…I’m really hoping we’re back someday soon!
What’s been your best hotel experience?

this is so nice, and I love the sleigh beds. We've driven to and back from Florida, I liked it when we went on the Blue Ridge Parkway, but I don't recall staying at any place that I would think to mention.

We've stayed in some nice hotels and I have to say they are WAY better then the cheapies. ha! So glad your mishap turned into a lovely adventure.
