You don’t have to start this young to see benefits of cloth diapering! |
I nodded and smiled understandingly at the lady who said this to me … much later (I have a seriously bad case of l’esprit de l’escalier) I thought to myself:
“NO! It’s not too late to start cloth diapering!”
I wish I had been quick-minded enough to tell her many people start cloth with their 2nd or 3rd child.
I wish she knew cloth would help her avoid throwing 2,500-5,000 diapers away.
I wsh she knew cloth would help her avoid the potential hazards of chemicals present in some disposable diapers.
I wish she knew she could still benefit from cost savings even late in the game. If it costs approximately $1,800 to diaper a baby over two years, and you spend just $100-300 on cloth diapers….well, that’s a savings of about $1,500! So, see, it would still be worth it.
I didn’t even start CD-ing from day one, myself. I had planned to start cloth diapering a few weeks after birth (I knew I’d be a complete basket case afterwards, so I gave myself a few weeks leeway to settle in). But in reality, the Bum Genius 3.0’s I had were too big on my baby until about 2 months, so I ended up ordering some Flips, and I officially started cloth about six weeks in I think (it’s all a blur now!).
So, I’m just saying (and I know that was one of the most hated expressions of 2010, but… I AM just saying it, nobody has to listen!) if you’ve considered cloth, but are hesitating because maybe you’ve had your last child, or you have a six month or 10 month old and think it’s too late … Don’t – it’s not too late!
When did you start cloth diapering your babies? If you don’t cloth diaper, are you considering it? What are your fears or hesitations?
