When I was new to cloth diapering, I would flip out if diaper cream got anywhere near my new dipes. Even with liners, you could still find a bit of that dreaded zinc oxide smearing up your microfleece!
At least now I know how to strip the diapers if that happens, but… you don’t have to even worry about residue from diaper creams because there are cloth safe versions on the market. One that I’ve been using (and ruthlessly, without even a liner!) has been the Thirsties Booty Love. Jack Be Natural sent me a jar of this cloth safe diaper cream to test out!
Now, you all know how long I’ve been dealing with diaper rash and cloth diapers, so creams and lotions aplenty have been used in our house. But all with liners! Was I nervous to use this cream without a liner – at first, yes, but I really wanted to test out how cloth safe it was, so I decided to go without a safety net.
I’m pleased to say, in the weeks I have been using this cream (and it’s been applied probably at least once a day!), we have not experienced any leaks due to residue. (Leaks due to toddlers who pee a ton during naptime – yes!).
Thirsties Booty Love is an organic, cloth safe diaper ointment with virtually NO scent. It contains organic oils that moisturize your baby’s skin, along with natural herbs that relieve the rash. One reason why we only have to apply it about once a day, is that usually after 1-2 applications, the irritations have subsided!
And check out the list of ingredients! TOTALLY READABLE: Extra virgin olive oil*, beeswax*, oregon grape root, myrrh gum, yarrow herb*, calendula flower* (* indicates certified organic).
Here’s a bonus – long after you’re done cloth diapering your kids, keep Thirsties Booty Love on hand, because it’s useful for healing minor cuts, burns, and skin irritations. I am very curious to try it out next time I burn my hand cooking – NOT that I’m anxious to do that, but I have never found anything that works well on a burn for me.
How do you deal with diaper rash and cloth diapers?

We never had bad diaper rash and I only remember using anything a bit after she was born (to make meconium clean up easy) and when we had thrush. What we used was plain virgin coconut oil, I also used it on the thrush areas and it cleared it right up. It was easier than choosing between all the diaper creams, there are so many choices to make when having that first baby!
