After three plus years of parenting, I’m realizing the advice to “sleep when they sleep,” and “be sure to go on dates still” is basically about taking time for yourself… and it’s very, very true.
We all want to give our families our “best selves,” I’m sure. But if our best self is about nine months in the past… we need to recharge and refuel.
When dinner burns while you’re changing a diaper.
When you’re ready to leave for an appointment and turn around to find the toddler buck naked.
When the baby tips over the basket of laundry you just folded…
We’re all faced with moments when we close our eyes and hope something is different when we open them again.
Sometimes we just need a time out. And I don’t mean the kind where you go sit on the stairs for as many minutes as your age (although, that sounds rather nice!).
Some of my favorite “alone time” activities are:
Take a walk – (I love walking with the kids and family, but sometimes I need a walk or a jog all on my ownsome!).
Sew or craft – getting deep into a project might take more than just a ten minute break, but when I get a good chunk of time, I love to find my creative self in a quilting or card-stamping craft!
Relax on the couch (with nothing to do!) – I need those no-laundry, no-movie, no-kids-romping moments to actually enjoy the nice soft couch for a change.
Enjoy a snack – indulging in a treat, whether healthy or even a little sweet, can be a great way to have a little “me” time. I like coffee with mine!
What do you do to carve out some time alone for yourself as a busy woman?
