Gluten-Free Eats: Bakery On Main

The hardest part of eating a gluten free diet is when you really miss your “comfort foods” that are blacklisted! So you have to find yourself some new foods that fit the bill.

I am happy to share with you a fantastic companyjust down the road from me! Bakery On Main.

I was introduced to their delicious cereals two years ago, never dreaming one day I would be on a wheat free diet myself. I remember eating some thinking, “I could eat this all day if I had to be on this diet!” Their cereals are that tasty!

Who are these amazing bakers, you ask? Well, not quite a decade ago, founder Michael Smulders decided nobody should suffer bad-tasting food just because of a special diet. He set out to create products that are good for you, but taste like they aren’t!

Now, he runs a state-of-the art bakery, with quality controls and in-house gluten testing on every batch. And… that is part of what makes Bakery On Main so special – they continue to make small batches of tasty goodness to keep their quality high!

This month, Bakery On Main introduced a new product: Gluten-free instant oatmeal! Perfect timing for the chilly weather and winter months, and definitely in my list of comfort foods! Bakery On Main offers three yumm-delicious flavors:

  • Strawberry shortcake
  • Maple multigrain muffin
  • Apple pie

I have always been a diehard maple oatmeal fan, so of course the winner is the Maple Multigrain Muffin oatmeal. But I have to give serious kudos to the Strawberry Shortcake, for its freeze-dried strawberries that retain a real berry flavor!

And the taste test? DELICIOUS! You know how most run-of-the-mill instant oatmeals get pasty after a few minutes? Not Bakery On Main’s – there is a good texture to the oatmeal even after it has cooked up! Usually I would eat 2 packets of Instant Oatmeal in one sitting, but one packet of this brand was pretty filling. I think also this has to do with the great flavor that comes through!

Part of what makes eating gluten-free difficult at times is the time-consuming nature of prepping foods. So thankfully, this oatmeal cooks in 1.5 minutes in the microwave – or if you’re like me and avoid microwaves whenever possible, just boil water in the teakettle, and it’s really not much longer!
