The first Friday in May is National Space Day! So whether you have a budding astronaut or star gazer, there’s so many ways to celebrate space exploration!
I have always loved stars as a motif for decorating, and the idea that man can go into outer space has always fascinated me – God’s world extends so far beyond what we can see and imagine, but it’s exciting to catch a glimpse through our brave space explorers!
Be an astronaut for a day!
Today, I have a guest post over on the Melissa & Doug blog with activities and ideas for your child to “Be an Astronaut for a Day!”
And I’ve also collected ten books about space, the moon, and astronauts that my children love to read. Some of them are fictional with references to the moon, and others are nonfiction or more specific to space.
Picture books about space and astronauts!
A quick search on Amazon for space books and astronaut books revealed a host of titles we haven’t gotten to yet, so we’ll have to do more reading on this topic and I may add onto this post!! Meanwhile, here’s my initial list! (affiliate links used)
- There’s No Place Like Space: All About Our Solar System
- Rockets and Spaceships
- The Berenstain Bears on the Moon
- I want to be an astronaut
- The Moon Book by Gail Gibbons
- Papa, Please Get the Moon for Me
- The Planets by Gail Gibbons
- Possum’s Harvest Moon
What are your favorite picture books about space, astronauts, or the moon!?
