I think if I "lose" my credit/debit card one more time, my husband is going to cut it up on me. He is so patient, but I am a "frequent flyer" in the, "Honey, I can't find the credit card" department.
Notice I used quotation marks around "lose"? Because my card has always turned up: in my pocket, in a corner of my purse, underneath the driver's seat. I know, I know! Ridiculous!
However, one time it took so long to find, I did call and cancel the card. What a hassle!
Now... imagine if I'd really lost it? Someone could have charged their next vacation to Tahiti on my dime! Look, if anybody is going to swagger into a ritzy Tahiti hotel using MY name... it better be ME!

Someone got my husband's debit card number earlier this year and used it for a couple purchases half-way across the country. Luckily I found it right away. I check our bank account online first thing every single morning. We never were able to find out who or how it was stolen.

My father in law had a check stolen out of the mailbox and then the thief had new checks made with his account number.

We have not been affected by identity theft (knock on wood) but the thought of it terrifies me. I feel so bad for people who have had this happen to them.

I actually have had two people use my social secuirty when i was a child and didnt find out untill i applied for my first job it was a long process

Yes we were victims of identity theft. Someone got into our checking account and took all our money. There were more victims at the same bank around the same time. They also got our SS#'s. We were getting calls from all sorts of online check advance companies stating we owed them. It was a mess. We got the law involved and they found the persons that did the hacking.
We had lifelock for about a year after this all happened but were not able to renew due to lack of funds at the time of renewal.

I've never had mine stolen...but my credit is so bad from when I divorced over 10 years ago that no one would be able to get anything with my credit! LOL

My husband just lost his wallet yesterday and it had 3 different credit cards, social security card and drivers license. Thank goodness someone honest returned it! I can only imagine how awful it could have been.

i'm always concerned about this. my husband moreso than i am- he wouldn't even do direct deposit at work until they forced him to and he had no choice!

We've had somebody use our credit card before. Thankfully, the CC companies coverd such charges, closed the old card and got us a new one!
My husband has some identity proctection because a company that had his info (for the right reasons) got hacked. So, to protect themselves they paid for the protection! We got a call recently after opening a new CC account! I was pretty impressed!!!

Fortunately we have not had our identities stolen. Trying to get your identity back and purged of all the mess is a terrible process to go through.

I have never had my identity stolen but a few years ago my husband got a copy of his credit report and there were accounts listed that were not his. I check my report annually and receive my score monthly allowing for me to monitor closely.
