Cozy your closet with these tips

1. Get a super cozy sweater

Living in Connecticut, you have to be ready for any kind of weather. Winter can be mild, or drop into the single digits! Brr. I have a hard time with the cold so I wanted to get my closet cozy for winter with a really thick sweater.

The Pullover Sweater from prAna wraps you in warmth! Its roll down collar is lined with sueded fleece for a super cozy feel. I wore it to an outdoor shopping plaza, and it was perfect for quickly ducking in and out of shops.

The best feature of this sweater isn’t the wintry patchwork pattern that reminds me of a winter quilt. Or the thick poly/wool blend, which cut the wind for my outdoor shopping adventure. No, the best feature is: hand pockets! A sweater with hand pockets is the best for those chilly days when you ran out quickly without a coat. The pockets are also lined with sueded fleece for a soft nest for your hands!

The fit of this sweater is boxy, making it a casual and relaxed style. Consider your body type when determining if this sweater is the best fit for you. I did find the sweater shed a bit on, so lightly brush with a lint brush to keep the fuzzies down.

2. Choose warm and cozy colors

I paired the khaki rose sweater with prAna’s classic Kara Jeans (which are my favorite jeans to date, and I wrote about them here). For a cozy winter color, I chose the Volcanic Plum. It’s a warm, muted color that makes me feel like curling up by the fire with a good book! The Volcanic Plus is very muted, so you won’t feel like you’re “Professor Plum” wearing this color. Just a cozy gal out for a winter stroll!

prAna’s Kara Jeans cuff up over an ankle boot, or can be worn long for a more sophisticated look. They are low rise, but they don’t seem that low to me. I love the narrow leg because skinny leg jeans are not my jam!

Kara jeans are 75% organic cotton with 25% poly/spandex for ultimate softness with some stretch. Perfect for this mom running around after kids all day!

3. Cozy up with a sherpa coat

Every winter closet needs a workhorse coat to keep cozy. I threw the Diva Jacket on over my warm and cozy outfit for added chill-kill. The sherpa lining made it so I didn’t even feel the wind when I was out pumping gas later that day. The side and underarm have a knit panel that does allow some venting and wind to come through.

Now, I would not really recommend this jacket AND the Crestland Pullover together as the sweater is quite bulky and the jacket is a fitted style. I’d thought they’d pair well together but I underestimated the sweater thickness. Still, if you sized up in the jacket, it could work.

I would be remiss if I didn’t mention beyond style and performance points of the outfit above, prAna also gets major points for sustainable clothing. Here’s four ways they make your closet more sustainable:

They use bluesign® approved products and materials to ensure that harmful chemicals are not used in their products from the start.

prAna’s recycled wool reduces the resources needed to make warm clothing. And recycled wool is just as comfortable, durable, and warm!

Organic cotton is the only cotton used in prAna manufacturing. Choosing organic cotton can save 115 gallons of water per item!

As the first North American brand to produce fair trade certified clothing, you can be sure your prAna clothing purchases help another family across the globe. Fair Trade Certified clothing means the factories AND materials involved use sustainable practices.

How do you get your closet cozy for winter?

I believe that both in cold and warm times you need to have quality stuff. In winter it is better to use something made of natural wool that will be perfect to keep warm in the summer, I prefer to wear linen cloth because it is easy to breathe
