Last Saturday my mom did the sweetest thing. She took her sister, myself, my sister, my sister-in-law and her sister out to a “sisters” lunch. Did I say sister too many times? That’s 3 pairs of sisters!
She kept the location a secret (I love secret destinations!) until we got to… Tea Roses Tea Room in Cromwell, Conn.
At Tea Roses, we were greeted by the lovely Peggi, the owner of this gift shop, cafe, and tea room. We sampled teas and then sat down to Afternoon Tea.
A delightfully light salad with apples and cheese was followed by three tiers of Afternoon Tea foods. I wondered if I would be full since all the sandwiches are tiny. But there are so many different kinds to sample, by the end I could not eat another bite!
I went out on a limb and ordered Teecino – a tea that looks, smells and tastes very similar to coffee. Okay, it is not coffee, and nothing can replace my love for a really good roast. But if you can’t have coffee, or you want to try something different, Teecino is not bad. You can put cream and sugar in it just like coffee. Now with real coffee, I can usually drink two cups in a row, but I have to say with Teecino one cup was enough!
My sister-in-law’s sister tried Congo Bongo tea – a delicious coconuty flavored tea. I’m ordering that next time!
The scones were to-die-for sweet and rich (not dried out) and topped with double cream, jam or lemon curd … Mmmm! Delicious!
Finally a tray of mini desserts – homemade ganache, cream puff, shortbread. I told you – I was so full by the end.
Better than lunch was uninterrupted time with some of my favorite people. We don’t do this often enough!
I loved sharing memories and stories of sister-hood. The embarrassing, the sweet, the precious stories we share.Do you have a fun specialty cafe / restaurant you like to go to? How do you spend time with your sisters (or girlfriends that are like sisters!)?
PS: I didn’t share pics of my sister-in-law and her sister b/c I am not sure they want them on the Internet… just so you know I didn’t leave them out to be mean! 🙂
