The plan was to make all my own baby food….never run to the store for jars of purée. I did pretty well for awhile…
- then the mess associated with making homemade food in bulk…
- thawing frozen chunks, hoping it was peaches in the morning and not butternut squash because in my haste to freeze I’d forgotten to label the food…
- not having time to thaw the food before we needed to be at an appointment, church, etc…
- my son’s refusal to eat the thawed food…
Well, I started keeping jarred baby food on hand… then that became too convenient… before I knew it I was making less than half of my son’s food myself!
Until I got the Baby Brezza food maker… Okay – there are a ton of fun gizmos and gadgets out there for moms. But this is one that I think EVERY mom who plans to make their own baby food should have. The Baby Brezza baby food maker.
Before I received this excellent machine, I made most of my baby food the old-fashioned way – steaming on the stove top, transferring HOT food to a blender or food mill, storing in freezer cubes or in the fridge. I admit I find this process a bit messy and time consuming. I frequently heard from my DH “Do you want these carrots still boiling over here?” To which I look up from my blogging and say, “What carrots?” I’m not the most attentive cook.
I didn’t realize how much the Baby Brezza would help my baby food making routine. But now, I can’t live without it! I chop up some fruit, put it in the steam/blend container, and set it for 15 minutes. I walk away. Walk. away. Get that? Now, I can safely forget I have food cooking! The Baby Brezza goes through it’s routine, steams the chopped food and then blends it into a smooth puree. When it’s done, the Baby Brezza reminds me with a beep!
I’ve made 4 batches of fresh apple-blueberry sauce in an hour. With minimal effort beyond peeling/slicing apples. LOVE IT! Plus there’s no pile of pots and pans to wash.
The Baby Brezza can steam all kinds of fruits and vegetables, even fish! And with the grain basket attachment, I’ve made oatmeal, quinoa flakes, pasta and more for my baby’s dinner. Most foods cook up within 10-15 minutes so that also means that a homemade meal for baby is just minutes away! (And since you don’t have to watch it, you can be busy preparing dinner for the rest of your family!)
Baby Brezza is a versatile product as well! There’s a setting for just steaming food (no blend) if your baby is eating food pieces. And a setting just for blending food so you can get the right consistency for an older baby. Personally, I love the auto-puree setting, because I mix pureed fruits and veggies into his pastas, oatmeal and yogurt, so it still works even at 16 months!
I’m getting creative with my baby food making because cleanup is a breeze, so I am trying new combinations and recipes!! Caution: the blades are VERY sharp!
The Baby Brezza will easily pay for itself in food savings from making your own baby food! You can also order accessories (like the grain basket) to add features! It’s the ideal gift for the natural mama or anyone who wants to make their own baby food! Put it on the baby registry!
And the results? Just look at his face!
My Recipes in the Baby Brezza Cookbook!
You all know how much I love this gadget….so I was even more excited to have two of my recipes featured in the Baby Brezza cookbook… I insist this bit of baby gear got me back on track making my own baby food regularly!
The Baby Brezza Cookbook contains 47 healthy and intriguing recipes for babies/toddlers. The recipes are from REAL moms and were tested in the Baby Brezza Test Kitchen. My recipes were “Gluten-Free / Dairy-Free Baby Breakfast Cereal” and “Pasta Primavera.” Also included are lots of tips for feeding babies, introducing foods and more!
You’ll find recipes in every category – fruit, veggie, sweet, spicy, hearty, and beyond baby! All the recipes could be made the traditional route (steam and mash), but the Baby Brezza would make each one super fast and easy to create!
Then, fellow blogger Brett from This Mama Loves Her Bargains (also featured in the cookbook) and I hosted a cookbook signing at our local MOPS group! We were thrilled to give away about forty signed (yes, me! Autographs!!) copies of the Baby Brezza Cookbook to other mamas!
I think the general consensus among the moms was in line with my experiences….wishing to make their own foods, but not knowing where to start, or running out of ideas. Everyone was excited to get their books and check out the recipes, and I hope they find the ideas and tips helpful as they go through the early years of motherhood!
Also the photographer who took my photos for the book stopped by to pick up a copy! Marissa was such great fun to work with, and I was excited to share the completed book with her!
As a writer, being published in a book is a big deal, although I never foresaw it would be a baby food book! I can’t wait to see what other adventures await as a writer and blogger!
Get your own copy of the Baby Brezza cookbook online at their website! (note: this is a great cookbook for new moms even if they don’t yet have a Baby Brezza food maker…..but I think everyone should have one!!).
Do you make your own baby food? Do you have any special tools to help you?
Thank you to Baby Brezza for providing a machine for my use and review! Can’t wait to see the cookbook in the fall!

I just got the Baby Brezza and I am so excited to start using it! I was wondering if you would mind telling me how you make oatmeal in it. I couldn't find anything in the instructions or on their website that explained how to do it.

I love my Baby Brezza! I always get startled when the blender function kicks in after the steaming. I forget that I am steaming baby food, and it's great that the noise the blender makes gets me!
Hmm...it's simple to use, and I love that i do not have to get a pot boiling in order to make baby food!!
