Hi! I’m Julie. I’m really glad you’re here.
I’m a former English teacher turned homeschool mom, writer, and curriculum creator. I love getting closer to God, a hot cup of coffee, well-researched historical fiction, and true stories that explore how people learn, think, and live, baking apple pies, and conversations with my kids.
My husband and I are raising two thoughtful, imaginative boys (currently teenagers!). Our days are full of old books, LEGO builds, and delightful conversation. Homeschooling them has shaped how I think about learning, writing, and faith.
Happy Strong Home began in 2010 as a place where I shared our homeschooling and family life. It has grown into a space focused on something close to my heart: helping homeschool parents teach reading and writing well.
Writing can feel intimidating to teach—especially if you didn’t love it yourself or you’re not sure why certain skills are necessary. I care deeply about helping parents understand the why, not just the what. I don’t believe in vague or complicated systems that only work in theory. I want to offer practical ideas you can actually use.
Most of what I share here is influenced by classical education (with a strong appreciation for Charlotte Mason), my background in English, and real-life experience teaching my own kids and other students in the classical homeschooling community. Along the way, I’ve created digital resources, curriculum, and books for families who want to nurture strong readers, capable writers, and thoughtful learners.
What you’ll find at Happy Strong Home
- Writing and literacy resources for homeschool families
- Practical guidance for teaching writing in the elementary and middle years
- Classical education–inspired ideas and book lists
- Faith-filled encouragement for life and learning at home
My hope is you feel both welcomed and equipped as you visit this space. I want you to come away with clarity, confidence, and a better sense of how to support your child’s growth as a writer, one small word at a time.
Take a look around, and make yourself at home.

The Vision
To support homeschool families as they raise thoughtful readers and confident writers, grounded in a love of learning and shaped by faith.
The Mission
At Happy Strong Home, I create practical resources to help parents teach reading and writing well—drawing from classical education, years in the homeschool community, and a Christian view of learning that values truth, beauty, and goodness.
Core Values
Faith at the Center
Learning is shaped by what we love and believe, therefore having a biblical worldview matters in our homes.
Classical Roots
I value the beauty and wisdom of classical education in forming attentive, articulate learners.
Clear, Practical Help
No vague advice—just ideas you can understand and actually use.
Respect for Parents
You don’t need to be an expert to teach well. You just need good tools and encouragement.
Joyful Learning
Education should be meaningful and enjoyable. From playful activities to thoughtful writing projects, I want learning to feel engaging, rewarding, and full of discovery.
