DIY Coffee Scrub – Gifts for Him

If you have even just an hour of free time, you can whip up this amazing DIY Coffee Scrub – AKA “Dirt Scrub” – for your own family or as a gift. I researched many recipes and eventually concocted one that felt right to me on a slow week, but it really doesn’t take long to make. Funny story: I commented to my husband that I had a “low-key” week ahead of me. My oldest son immediately said, “What do you mean, you have a “little kid” week?”

Ha! I did, in fact, have a little kid week planned. We had another load of snow falling as I made this scrub. The kids had a fresh stack of books from the library (have you heard how awesome libraries are these days?) with some exciting possibilities for crafts and science experiments for us to enjoy.

AND, I had just received a bunch of essential oil supplies in to try some natural deodorants, lip balms and more concoctions! All of these elements came together to form a fun low-key (and little kid!) week!

Whether you’re stuck in a snowstorm or enjoying balmy southern weather…there’s never a bad time to make this DIY Coffee Scrub recipe! Right now, Valentine’s Day is coming up. I never know what to get my hubby because he is so low-maintenance. For Christmas, I made all the guys on my side of the family “Dirt Soap,” so I thought – I can whip up another batch for a Valentine’s gift for my husband! But you know what? This is also a great gift idea for Father’s Day too, since in the summer months, guys are often outside getting dirt caked into their skin and nails. This scrub will clean all that gunk right out!

Dirt Soap is really a DIY Coffee Scrub that’s a perfect replacement for your typical orangy pumice hand cleaner (read: filled with harsh chemicals cleaner!). I made this with exfoliating coffee grounds, which are great for getting dirt out! Plus, the caffeine is invigorating for skin! There’s the added benefits of moisturizing oils and the cleansing effect of essential oils as well!

Here’s the quick and easy recipe to make your own Dirt Soap for your guy!

DIY Coffee Scrub “Dirt Soap” Recipe

INGREDIENTS:

  • 1 cup of coffee grounds (fresh is best, but if you want to upcycle, use the most recent grounds from your coffee maker. Just be sure to dry them out first).
  • 1 cup of unrefined virgin coconut oil (refined oils can clog pores)
  • 1/2 tsp vitamin E oil or almond oil (for moisturizing)

OPTIONAL:

  • Exfoliants: 1/2 cup of any of the following: Himalayan salt, sugar, oatmeal
  • Scents: 1 Tbsp ground cinnamon or 4 drops of nutmeg or clove essential oil (or all three!). These can support anti-inflammation.

DIRECTIONS:

  • Mix all ingredients together until well-blended and there are no lumps. If it seems a little too dry, add more coconut oil until you get a desired texture (using damp grounds can affect this, which is why they should be dry).
  • Pour into a squat or shallow lidded jar (so recipient can scoop out easily), and tie a tag explaining the Dirt Soap and its use!

Presto! Easy gift, right!?

Scrub away!

Earlier this year I was shocked when I realized my husband was using one of my favorite sugar scrubs (how dare he!?!) I never thought about men wanting to use scrubs until then. This looks like a good one to try.
