Sneak Peek :: Baby’s First Birthday DIY Prep

Just a few more days till the big event! The actual first birthday is in two days and the birthday party a few days later…

I’ve been busy making plans and prepping…

The invitation, I created using clip art purchased on Etsy and some digi scrap. This layout isn’t original to me at all – I recreated ideas I saw on Pinterest in Microsoft Publisher using the clip art I bought. Then I printed the invites postcard sized on cardstock and mailed in invitation sized envelopes.

Of course, I can’t help myself. I have to make something unique for each birthday party. For my oldest, the first two years I made bibs, and then this last year a t-shirt, so maybe that will be the tradition? I stuck with the bib this year.

Flannel front and terry backed, this bib was made from some scraps in my fabric stash. I wish I had some PUL on hand to make this a waterproof-lined bib.

I appliqued the number “one” to the front with Steam-A-Seam and then tangled with the iron-on transfer to put some Peter Rabbit clip art on the bib too. Ugh. That was a bit of a nightmare and the image isn’t crisp as a result. But I guess it’ll do.

After turning and top-stitching around the outside, I felt something was missing, so I added a blanket stitch around the number one. The blue embroidery floss added a touch of color and a little texture.

Oh! I got to use my KAMSnaps pliers to add snaps to this bib! How exciting and they actually came out right the first time! Must be the good fabric thickness!

The whole party won’t be DIY, but the main features (invite, bib, cake) will be! I can’t wait to share the big day with you all next week!

What’s the last DIY project you worked on?

The last crafty project I did was today. I knit a hat for a friend's baby and will post a picture on my blog on Wednesday. Your son's bib is cute. My daughter loves Peter Rabbit.
