10 Photos For Moms to Take of their Kids

The reviewer has been compensated in the form of a Best Buy Gift Card.

Days of mothering pass by oh-so-swiftly. But you can capture these amazing moments. Funny moments, milestone moments, snuggle moments, peanut butter jelly moments, crying moments, wistful moments, sleepy moments.

I’m a fan of getting professional photos taken of your family at least once a year – they are amazing. But unless you have millions of dollars to pay someone to follow you around all day (or you’re on a reality TV show), you’re going to need another way to capture everyday moments that are the true heart of parenting.

As someone with a terrible memory, I treasure my photos. I love loading our digital photo frames with the year’s photos (I update every Father’s Day for some reason!).

This week, I sat down and thought about what kinds of photos would help me remember this year’s spring memories decades from now. It’s not going to be the staged family photo in front of a paper backdrop … it’s going to be the small and messy and maybe slightly blurry photos that captured every nose, little fingers, little toes.

Here’s ten photos for moms to take this Mother’s Day to capture the essence of motherhood:

  1. A photo of you and your child together
  2. A photo of your child looking at you
  3. A photo of you looking at your child
  4. A photo of something they made you
  5. A photo of something you made them
  6. A photo of their favorite toy/object
  7. A photo of your favorite toy/object of theirs
  8. A photo focused mainly on your favorite feature on their face
  9. A photo of them in their favorite spot
  10. A photo where they don’t know you’re taking a photo of them (you know, a candid? LOL)

This Mother’s Day try snapping a few photos in these categories (or make up your own categories!). I think you’ll find you get some “framers” out of the mix… or make a collage. Like this one:

I have to tell you though that the Windows Lumia phone takes the most amazing photos. Now I don't have a DSLR to compare it to though. ha! ;)
