Feeling a little crafty – but don’t want to spend the money on craft materials? I bet you have plenty of crafty goodness just laying around your house ready to be upcycled into some exciting games for your kids!!
For Valentine’s make your toddler this easy fabric heart matching game.
- Just grab some empty boxes or cartons. Cut out the larger front and back sections.
- Glue fabric scraps to one side of the cardboard. (If you don’t have fabric, try gluing scrapbooking paper. If you don’t have scrapbooking paper, how about construction paper, or coloring a blank piece of paper and glueing that down. Or, get some colorful stickers and stick them all over the cardboard!).
- Make sure you use different colors or fabric patterns for the front and back so you have a variety of designs.
- Use a cookie cutter to trace two small hearts from each fabric piece. Or cut freehand – I am not that good!
- Cut out several pairs of hearts from the two different fabric-covered sections (I used all reds for Valentine’s! But you could go neutral or do another theme like cars, kittens, whatever you please!). The more patterns you have the more complicated the game will be. Depending on the age of your child, you may want to use several boxes and fabric patterns so they have more pieces to play with.
- Play this game just like any memory game – turn the hearts upside-down so you only see the brown backing. Let kids flip each one over until they find a match.
I hope you and your kids enjoy playing this Upcycled Fabric Heart Matching Game this Valentine’s Day!
