Give the gift of sleep to your kids

I will admit I’m a sucker for stealing glimpses of my little boys asleep – it’s about the only time I can catch them in a still moment these days!

Kids need sleep for good health, better moods, and proper brain development. So, truly, making sure your child has enough sleep is a gift you can give them.

Sometimes it requires the sacrifice of not going to that awesome fireworks display. Leaving a ball game early, staying home during nap times. It’s not always the most “fun” gift to give!

Our oldest has always been a fitful sleeper who fights naps and bedtimes. As a baby, he used to sing super loudly in the car on the way home from church just to try to keep himself awake.

It’s been a struggle to get him the rest he needs, and when he is not well-rested, we can tell by how he talks and acts.

One way we try to ensure he gets a good rest is by giving him a good mattress. I am determined our children will always sleep on quality mattresses as they grow up.

I was thrilled to work with Tempur-Pedic earlier this year and be sent their Cloud Select memory foam mattress to us at no charge in exchange for my thoughts.

We’d purchased a Tempur-Pedic mattress over five years ago, and have been impressed with the feel and comfort. I have scoliosis, and a supportive mattress is crucial to spine alignment and sound sleep, and our queen mattress also has helped relieve pressure points that used to make me ache when I woke up on our old mattress.

Now, I can’t say that my son’s new mattress has solved his unwillingness to sleep, or the many bathroom trips he makes before settling in! (Now that mattress would be a top seller!). But we have found he tends to sleep longer, even through the night most nights since moving him to his twin Tempur-Pedic.

Longer sleep usually means deeper and more restorative sleep too, so that is a huge benefit of a great mattress like a Tempur-Pedic.

The pressure relieving material in the mattress adjusts to the individual’s shape, which means this is a mattress that will continue to support him as he grows.

When I lay on the bed with him to read stories and get him mellowed out for sleeping, I enjoy the firm comfort the mattress offers. I’ve actually drifted off a number of times as I read or sing him to sleep!

The Tempur-Pedic Cloud Select is a comfortable, supportive mattress, and I’d surely love to get one for our second son when he moves out of the crib. (Which, for the record, is never, right? Because he’s gonna be my baby forever!).

We initially received a regular mattress base, which proved to be too high for our little son to climb onto (and put him too high off the ground for my comfort). After talking to Tempur-Pedic, they immediately sent us a replacement – a low profile base barely an inch high, but supports the mattress. So now he is right near ground level! I like that there is a choice of mattress base heights.

You can find a wide variety of Tempur-Pedic memory foam mattresses online at their website and in most major mattress retailers. Also accessories like the mattress protector is a must (even without small children, I have spilled cups of water on my bed from time to time!).

Connect with Tempur-Pedic on Facebook and Twitter as well to ask questions, get support and find out about sales!

Thanks to Tempur-Pedic for providing us a mattress for review! All opinions are 100% my own.

My kids do not have 'good' beds and don't know if they ever will but I do know the importance of them. I just got my first 'good' bed a few months ago and looooooving it! :)

Wow, I am ready to curl up in A's bed. I might find myself falling asleep in that bed.
