Okay so… as much as there are lots of lovely diaper styles and types and prints and fabrics out there (and there are)… I have begun giving my readers and friends this advice:
Start your stash with prefolds and covers!
(Notice, I didn’t say your stash has to END there – more power to the crazy-fun prints and innovative diapers!).
But I do think moms new to cloth diapering would do well to start out with a set of prefolds and covers for a few reasons:
~They are inexpensive. (If you decide cloth diapering is not for you, you will not have invested too much money yet).
~They are workhorses.
~They are easy to wash and care for. (Very hard to “ruin”).
~They are versatile (so many ways to fold them).
~They are durable.
~They have good resale value – people are always looking to buy up some used prefolds and covers to start or supplement their own stash!).
~They work great for camping and handwashing (okay, maybe you don’t have this need but I thought I’d mention it!).
Have I given you enough reasons yet?
Have you added prefolds and covers to your stash?

I actually just found 13 prefolds - size medium at a local thrift store. They look like they were never even used as they did not have the wrinkled look they get when properly prepped. I was so excited, especially since they were only $1.99 for all 13. We will be adding these to our stash. I also rented some newborn covers to use our smaller prefolds with our newborn, too. Love prefolds also to use instead of microfiber inserts - less stink.

I trifolded for six of my babies and then discovered the Angel fold. It was great! I loved the gussets since they kept the EBF poop off our covers.

I agree with you. Prefolds were the first cloth diapers I bought. They're cheap, easy to care for, and can be used for other things, burp cloths, cleaning rags, etc.
