We made it back to the Durham Fair this year – last year’s trip was fun (and yummy), and we wanted to make it back to this exciting, yet manageable fairgrounds! Our visit to the Durham Fair in Connecticut with TWO boys was a family fun adventure!
Turns out, we had possibly the best day of fall for fair-going (although all the days have been GREAT this year!). The weather was crystal clear and mild, with a little breeze, and unrealistically perfect puffy clouds spaced out across the sky. It was like a painting!
We started the day at the Durham Fair in the Kiddie section – I wish we’d known about this last year! You could spend your entire day here with the kiddos and never get tired. A play area with tractor riding challenges, donut eating contest, an inflatable basketball hoop and more will keep the kids busy.
I love this photo of the boys!
Our boys loved the simple corn pool. I wish I’d thought to do this at our house – just a plastic pool filled with corn feed! Fun for digging and dumping and filling buckets!
Next to the play area is a petting zoo, where our fourteen-month old about wore himself out trying to out-moo the animals.
The jungle gym (pay-to-play) attraction was a hit for our three and a half year old. He went through twice and had a lot of fun playing with the other kids!
Of course, I love fair food, so we had to stop for fried dough, fried oreos, Reuben sandwiches, and a tin mug of Wild Bill’s soda. You can fill up your soda mug all day with the different flavors. (I’m not saying you SHOULD, but… for a family, this $10 mug is a good buy if you’re staying all day and willing to share a cup!).
We ended up staying MUCH longer than the three hours I had anticipated! The boys were cooperating nicely and not getting cranky. We let the baby nap in the stroller while we enjoyed down time on a blanket on the hill. The view was magnificent!
I always love to check out the handmade crafts building. I bought some delightful hand carved spoons and things for Christmas gifts!
At the end of the day, we took a tour through the barns to check out the livestock. Cows, goats, sheep! There’s so much to delight the kids in the barns!
Have you been to the Durham Fair in Durham, Connecticut? What are you enjoying this fall?

Howdy! We absolutely love your picture of your son standing next to our stand drinking out of his mug! Would you give us permission to post it on our Facebook as a "Fan Photo Friday"? If it is O.K., could you send me the image file? Thanks a bunch! -Steph @ Wild Bill's
