Taste the Flavors of Fall with a Cranberry Maple Turkey Sandwich!

My husband asked me the other day if fall was my favorite season. I did have to think about it a little as it was an unseasonable ninety degrees outside, but all-the-great-things-about-summer considered… yes, fall IS my favorite season! The colors, the crispness, the smells… and most of all the foods!! This week I tasted the flavors of fall by making myself (and hubby!) a scrumptious Cranberry Maple Turkey Sandwich! This sandwich has some surprises up its sleeve so read on to find out how I layered the flavors for this autumnal feast of a sandwich!

A quick trip to the store this time of year will offer you plenty of ideas for what to stick in a fall-themed sammy! Fall flavors are so robust, hearty, and warming. You could go spicy, or sweet. Or both! I picked both!

When McKenzie Natural Artisan Deli asked me to come up with a fall-themed lunchmeat sandwich, my tastebuds started watering conjuring up so many yummy fall flavors! With the mouthwatering choices from McKenzie’s line of handcrafted and natural deli meats, the only hard part was making up my mind! I kinda already gave out the spoiler in the first paragraph that I made a Cranberry Maple Turkey Sandwich, but I did boost the flavor with a few “add-ons!”

Cranberry Maple Turkey Sandwich

First, I started with an unusual bread choice – in the bakery I discovered a delightful “breakfast bread” which essentially was a hearty raisin-sunflower seed bread with a dark crust. Oh so yummy!

I created my own cranberry-mustard Spread by mixing brown mustard with jellied cranberry sauce (I couldn’t find any cranberry jelly). I had to play with the ratios to get the flavor to my liking, but I found that a 50/50 ratio of mustard to cranberry gave it a good blend of spicy and sweet. Your tastes may differ, so when you try this recipe, be sure to taste test!Cranberry Maple Turkey Sandwich

After I spread the bottom bread with the cran-mustard blend, I layered on a bed of red-leaf lettuce. I love the color and tenderness of red-leaf, and how frilly it looks in a sandwich!

Next up, some yellow cheddar slices! Yellow for the color splash, cheddar for that sharp fall flavor!

Finally, what we’ve all been waiting for – the lunchmeat! I picked AntiBiotic Free Maple Honey Turkey from McKenzie Natural Artisan Deli’s delicious lineup of lunchmeats! Maple. Turkey. Fall. Come on, you know they just beg to go together! It was sort of a no-brainer!

Pile up the turkey… then… more cranberry-mustard spread and another piece of bread. Slice in half and enjoy! I’ll let you decide if you get triangles or squares… can you tell I’m a mom of little ones!?

So seriously, all these flavors stacked up into one amazing sandwich! I think I’m ALWAYS going to eat sandwiches on raisin bread! The McKenzie Maple Honey Turkey is oven-browned and coated with real Vermont maple syrup, making it tender and delectable. The maple taste is so subtle and you can tell it is REAL maple syrup, not just a flavoring (trust me, I am a maple syrup snob!).Cranberry Maple Turkey Sandwich

Get clean-eating deli meats with McKenzie Natural Artisan Deli

Do you know, since I did the Whole30 “diet” a few years ago, I had mostly cut out lunchmeat, because it’s a food that can abound with fillers and artificial ingredients. So I’m delighted to find that McKenzie Natural Artisan Deli meats are hormone and antibiotic free, non-GMO, and non-MSG! They pride themselves on using high quality whole muscle meat.

I can’t wait to try some of McKenzie’s hardwood smoked hams and other meats. Plus, they also have a line of cheeses out that I am hoping will be in my stores soon!

The McKenzie family has been handcrafting deli meats since 1907 in South Burlington, Vermont. That’s just a skip and a jump north of us! While McKenzie Natural Deli Meats are mostly are available in Vermont, they’ve expanded to include a few New England states (like my state of Connecticut and New York!).

I found McKenzie deli meats at my local Big Y store. If you’re looking for a “clean-eating” deli meat to make the most delicious lunchtime sandwiches ever, check out where to buy McKenzie meats in your area.

Now I’m off to make myself another sandwich! Here’s the full recipe for your lunchtime yum-yums!
