DAD’S LOG: Baby Science 101

I never expected our baby to know science so early. Now, if you ask him a question…he will simply either stare at you with a blank look…or smile with that “your Jedi mind tricks won’t work on me” look…or he will simply grunt and soil his diaper! (hmm…maybe that is his answer?) Either way, he never fundamentally answers a question I ask…so far.

What I have discovered however is his innate ability to demonstrate scientific concepts. For one, he is the master of Newton’s Third Law of Motion: For every action there is an equal and opposite reaction.

I don’t know how old Newton was when he developed this law…but Asher has mastered this within two months!

What I am talking about is putting clothes on a baby. Maybe it’s me…but our baby does the opposite of what I want him to do!

No..close your hand, I can’t get it in the sleeve,…give me your arm..wait..no..don’t pull your arm back..no..the wrong arm is straight! Why are you pulling your legs back?!..I need to put your pants on…no..straighten the other leg! …stop spreading your toes…I can’t get your socks…stop with the kicking!

Sometimes getting clothes on him is more trouble than Tribbles! Anyway, after about a half hour of mixed martial arts…he is dressed.

Do I even need to mention that he sleeps when Mom & Dad are awake and he is awake when we, especially Mom, want to sleep! (Now this is really more opposite than equal…ask any Mom.)

Our baby can go all day with this “equal and opposite”….thanks Newton!
