Ever wonder how the nurses at the hospital can swaddle babies so perfectly? Well, it’s not just because they do it all day, it’s the size and shape of the swaddle blanket they use!
I have written about the importance of swaddling several times. Swaddling is great for babies because it reduces their “startle” reflex, allowing them to sleep better. When my older son was swaddled as an infant, he would almost instantly drop off to sleep and … he’d stay asleep longer too! So I am a huge fan of the swaddle and hope this baby takes to it as well!
To swaddle a baby so they don’t unwrap themselves, you need a very large, square cloth. Most blankets that call themselves “swaddles” are rectangles and quite small. Our first son always unwrapped himself immediately from those blankets. Which is why I’ve eyed the lovely 100% cotton muslin swaddling wraps from aden + anais® for some time now and finally have the chance to review them! The aden + anais wraps are extra large, 47×47, so it’s easier to swaddle your baby correctly.
The light, open weave of the fabric makes them soft and breathable, so baby’s body can self-regulate their temperature. (Get the cozy swaddles with a double layer of muslin for colder weather!). I love how the more I use these blankets and wash them, the softer and “plump-ier” they get. They get a quilted effect in the fabric, which adds character to the already delightful printed cloths. I love my Prince Charming set of classic swaddles – each print is sweet, but not overly “babyish” so you can use these for years to come even with older children (not to swaddle of course – read on!)!
Even if you don’t swaddle your babe, I find so many uses for these delightful wraps as burp clothes, nursing covers, car seat/changing table liners, bassinet sheets, and many other uses. I’ve done just about all of those – these blankets handle any situation you throw at them! Sun shade at the pool – check. Nursing cover at the library – check. Burp cloth at home – check. Oh, and yes, I swaddled this little guy up many a time!
Do you swaddle your baby? How else would you use these great wraps?

These are my absolute favorite swaddling blankets. Plus, Lil Sister's became her special luvie blanket now that she is older. I'm glad we had a pack of four so we could rotate through them.
Your little guy looks so sweet and cute and cozy in his.
