We took our boys to New York City this week! Here’s a photo essay of our trip!We really enjoy a drive into New York City – or as our son calls it: “Gnuuu-YARK!” The yellow taxis, big buses, crowds, always something to do or see, even just admiring the layers of architechture or odd sculptures as you walk down the street…
We spent the night at The Benjamin hotel in midtown Manhatten which was … a dream! Wait till I tell you about their Sleep Menu, Kidzz club, and hotel restaurant featuring an iron chef!! As it was a quiet evening (for the city!) we walked around the hotel area before dinner, each of us carrying a child in a baby carrier. I got to use my new ErgoBaby newborn insert (more on that later!). We got several odd looks from the New Yorkers. I guess babywearing is not seen often? In fact, we didn’t see anyone else carrying their babies, but did see lots of strollers!
After discovering we were the corner from Crumbs bakery, we made plans to have breakfast there the next morning… I went a little overboard ordering cupakes for the road: mudslide, peanut butter cup, apple crumb, sea salt caramel, oreo (can you tell I love chocolate?), and a box of minis! They are delicious and decadent – I pretty much felt like I got four cavities just walking in the door!
Monday, we visited the NY Aquarium (more on that later too!). Since it’s right next to Coney Island, we (I) could not resist having lunch at the ORIGINAL Nathan’s Famous Hot Dog stand! I’m not a huge hot dog fan, but something this iconic, I had to indulge!
And the boys? (the boys – I love saying that!) They did wonderfully! Hardly any crying out of our newborn, and our toddler kept up a steady excited babble about the city, the cars, the construction, bridges, building, and many concerned questions about whether the “‘quarium is not closed?” He’s been waiting to go to the aquarium all summer, so he was understandably concerned!
More details on our trip coming up next!
Do you enjoy big cities? Do you live in/near one?
Looks like you had a fantastic time! I love your pictures and now I’m hungry!

You’d think baby wearing would be more popular in such a busy crowded city! I say you were super smart to ditch the stroller and baby wear! Those cupcakes look divine!! YUM!!!!! Looks like such a fun trip!!

I live in Miami but I love big cities too – I always compare them to home though! I was impressed with NYC when I was there for BlogHer. I wish I had tried crumbs bakery!

I don’t like big cities and we don’t live near one. We live in the biggest city in the state and it’s pretty small. However, I’ve always wanted to do NY city with the family. Maybe we’ll move that up to sooner rather than later knowing you did it with two small ones. Although, we really want to see some of the more touristy stuff.
I love that you toted both kids. Both ergos or was one different? I cannot wait to hear more details. Now, I need to go think about making some cupcakes!

I honestly don’t know how you do it all and not fall over dead tired.
I would love to visit NYC one day! You’ll have to take me. 🙂 The big city I grew up near is Chicago and I loved loved going.
Looks like you had a grand ole time!

I’m really surprised there wasn’t more babywearing going on! I was going to comment on this as soon as I saw the photos of the boys in the Ergo- those two in the middle (the one with you kissing E and your husband carrying A) are beauties!
I also love the one of you and A in front of the aquarium; I love the way he’s looking at you!
This looks like it was a fantastic little trip. I’ve never been to the Big Apple… I’ve wanted to for so long now! Maybe someday we’ll be able to get there.
(This is a side note from your post about A; my 2 y/o says “I can’t want that… I can’t like that…” too, so that part made me smile.
You’re brave, venturing out like that- you look great, and it looks like you had a wonderful time! I admire you! 🙂
Oh, P.S., I love the city, though I’ve really only ever experienced Baltimore and Pittsburgh for short periods of time. We live in a smaller city… and I can’t say I’d like to live here forever. But there are GREAT things about it, too.
Ugh, P.P.S. (I am not a crazy person- just forgetful) I love that new Ergo! What color/style is it?

I live in the Berkshires now but I’m a city girl at heart. I love the hustle and bustle and people that make up city life. My first daughter is currently 5mo old and her Aunt (my sister) and I are already planning her first trips to both NYC and Boston!! We can’t wait she and I usually try to hit NYC for a Broadway show at least twice a year and are so excited about when Izzabell will be old enough to enjoy one too!! It’ so awesome to see the pictures of your family enjoying the day!! Thanks for sharing!!

Julie, it looks like your family had a wonderful mini vacation. By the way, I love the picture of you and A at the end. You look beautiful and A looks so happy.
